You can see that the top/dress comes in two sleeve options. One is a regular short sleeve and the other has an add-on pleated cuff at the bottom.
You will find the Fisterra is well finished on the inside as on the outside. This top/dress has no zipper or buttons. The elastic shirring in the back waistband expands and contrasts so it’s easy to put on and fits the smallest part of your waist nicely.

Hi Kennis! This looks really lovely. One thing I’m curious about: what would happen if the waist was shirred all the way around? (Other than you might end up tugging it down all the time…)

Hi Lesley, shirring gathers the fabric. The back waistband is designed to have extra fabric for you to gather up. The front waistband doesn’t. If your shirr all the way around, the elastic on the front will need to be stretched when worn, thus you will feel strangled.

This would also be sooo cute lengthened as a maxi dress!
I love this pattern and have been specifically looking for one with a shirred waist. I do have a question. Does anybody know why some of the dresses/tops look VERY blousy around the upper waist and some do not? I hate when clothing is that blousy on me and want this pattern, but unsure if I could get a good fit on this. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Hi Gina, the elastic-shirred waist will naturally settle on the smallest part of your waist. If you have a high waist, then the waist settles higher. If you don’t want a blousy look, then you want to shorten the top (using the lengthen/shorten lines provided in the pattern).
Fabric will also affect how this looks. Very light, drapey fabrics will look different from heavier fabrics. A lightweight voile or rayon will be beautiful and have less “puffiness ” than a quilting cotton.
