Another winning design! Do you think this would work in a lightweight boiled wool?
Hi Helen, I think it would work if it’s lightweight. You would have to manage the bulk more aggressively (for example, trimming and grading seam allowances, pressing seam allowances in different directions, etc.)
I’ve never worked with boiled wool of any weight, but I can’t imagine why not! It should look fantastic! But will your arms be warm enough in the winter? I personally can’t pull off sleeveless clothing in the winter, but I see it in catalogs for winter clothing all the time.
In winter, I wear layers. A long sleeve inside makes it a bit of a vintage look. Or a cardigan makes it a modern, autumn-appropriate look.
I love the style! I’m wondering how it would fit in my Brazilian body style. I have a waist 15cm smaller than my hips. Would I need to make adjustments to the length?
Hi Tainá, 15 cm difference between the waist and the hip is not a lot. In fact, within one size, the difference between the waist and the hip is about 19 cm for Itch to Stitch’s patterns. The patterns are drafted for 168 cm, so you would lengthen if you are taller or shorten if you are shorter. Instructions are included on how to do this.
This is beautiful, congratulations! Love seeing how all of your testers have made it their own.
Thank you 🙂
Just wondering what your thoughts are on lengthening this? I love the style but don’t wear anything shorter than mid-calf length skirts. Thankfully I am only 5’3″. I just can’t tell for sure if it would work because of the buttons…is it just open after that?
Hi Gina, lengthening is very easy, especially for this dress, the skirt portion is straight, so you can lengthen it with no problem. And if you need more buttons, you can add more, but I would make sure you can still walk. Personally, I wouldn’t add more buttons.
Beautiful dress Would there be a possibility of adding short sleeves to this pattern?
Hi Johanna, thank you for your interest. There’s no plan to add a sleeve. Currently there are 77 other patterns with sleeves if you are interested: https://itch-to-stitch.com/product-category/sleeves/
Hi, Johanna,
You Tube has a video that explains how to draft your own sleeve pattern. I haven’t tried it but you may find it helpful. The link is below.

Thank you for this link. I absolutely love this pattern, but I can’t do sleeveless anymore. I will try a muslin to see if I can get a nice 3/4 length sleeve on this. If not, I’ll just add a cardigan. 🙂
This is a beautiful dress! Going to be a classic, for sure.
Love the classic style of this dress! Have you considered offering an add-on pattern providing a long sleeve option?
Hi Mary, I am asked this question in every sleeveless pattern I make, but I don’t add sleeves to an armhole that’s designed to be sleeveless. I know many people don’t wear sleeveless, but not every pattern is meant to be for (and has to be liked by) everyone. I understand that.
