  1. cjlyall

I thought this might look like a maternity dress with the gathers in front, but it totally doesn’t and I like it enough to make another one. I used a viscose, which drapes beautifully. I made my usual size and had no fitting issues. I chose to use the zip, which was just as well! I can wriggle into it without undoing it but I wouldn’t have been able to get it off. Lovely pattern.

  2. Karen

I’ve made 2 already. Great fit.

  3. Brenda

First time I have made a dress in 45 years. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. The ability to mix and match sizes worked very well for me. The fit is excellent. On to my second dress already!

  4. Virginia

I’m not allowed to post my original review ( “Spam forbidden” ) so all I can say is that the lower rating is because of the poor directions for the pocket. No pattern piece for it, no dimensions given in the directions, poor marking on the pattern itself. I finally gave up including the pocket just so I could get the dress finished.

  5. Anonymous

I really like this pattern. I enjoyed making it – the directions are great, and I like wearing it – it’s very flattering!

  6. Diane

Just finished Celeste dress. I LOVE IT!

  7. Pirjo

Very nice and easy to sew

  8. Donna

Love the fit and the style. Sewing your patterns is so stress free! Once I figured out which adjustments I needed to fit me ( not many which never happens!) I’ve been able to apply those same adjustments to any of your patterns I’ve sewn. I’ve been sewing for 30+ years and have never had such consistent results. Thanks so much!!

  9. Tracey

I am based in the UK but as these are digital patterns I could have it straight away. Really easy to put the pdf pieces together and so easy and clear instructions saw this pattern on TomKat Stitchery and fell in love with it. Wonderful!

  10. Leslie A Moyer

I love this dress!! It’s easy to sew, with a creative assembly, it’s comfortable, easy to fit, flattering on many body types, and comfortable to wear. I’ve made one in a linen blend, and one in a patterned denim-like cotton with a bit of stretch. Pattern directions are very easy to follow. I’ve used the pocket assembly trick on other projects.

  11. Ingrid

A pattern not for a beginner. I am happy with the end result.

  12. Shirley

Pattern instructions were easy to follow. Good notes on how to make adjustments to fit, although I did not need to make any adjustments. I am very pleased with the fit. Infact on completion, I promptly cut out another dress from my fabric stash. I was unable to purchase a zip, so was very pleased to find I could get into the dress without one. Thoroughly recommend this pattern.

  13. Wendy

    Another cute style.

  14. Linda

Even though there were multiple bust sizes, I needed to do an adjustment to lower the bust apex. I had already added an inch to the top and another inch to the bottom but I did realize from my muslin that I needed to do another adjustment to lower the apex by 1.5 inches. I’m surprised that I needed to do so many adjustments. I’m only 5’8” and an A-cup. I usually only do length adjustments so this seemed more than usual.

  15. Kathy

Great pattern, nice to be able to follow tutorial on youtube

  16. Diane Wheat

The dress is beautiful and instructions were very clear. Thankyou for a lovely pattern

  17. Andy

Easy to understand pattern, well illustrated. The cut of the dress is excellent and easy to alter to fit. I had some difficulty with the facings fitting together, but got there in the end.

  18. Martie

A wonderful pattern for a cool, comfortable and well-fitting dress!

  19. Anonymous

I can’t make heads or tails out of figuring out how to choose sizing and print my pattern.

  20. Carolyn

    I love this dress!

  21. Mary

Easy to print and easy to use. Clear directions and lots of online support if you need it. Cannot beat the fit!

  22. Chris

Beautiful pattern and the pattern is well drafted and easy to follow. Looking forward to making quite a few of these.

  23. Anonymous

    Very nice flattering style

  24. Tine

Beautiful dress, amazing fit, easy to make

  25. Ashleigh

I adore this pattern. Made it up in an olive green linen and it was wonderful to sew. I needed to grade up a size for my hips compared to my bust and waist – the instructions on how to do this were very clear and thorough. I appreciate there were different cup size options too, so I didn’t have to make a full bust adjustment. I’m going to need a Celeste in every colour and print, I think!

  26. Mary

Well designed pattern. Pieces fit together. Aligning the pieces correctly was much easier when only one pattern size was included in printed pieces.

  27. Carol

This is such a cute pattern! My only quibble is that I think the sleeves are a bit too wide. I will try to alter them for my next try.

  28. SANDRA

It’s been years since I have sewn any garments for myself and my body has changed tremendously. I have had to make a muslin – too tight, then another muslin and then do an adjustment to lower the bustline princess seam. All the while learning a little more. For others, I would say if you want looser fit, size up. I love the look and it goes together nicely. I will persevere.

  29. Mireille

Une jolie robe, agréable à réaliser et à porter.

  30. Wendy

This dress is beautiful! I really appreciate that all of the Itch-to-Stitch patterns I’ve used fit very well. The directions and construction are excellent. I’m so happy with the results.

  31. Carol

Love the clean lines of this dress.

  32. Venice

This dress is so beautiful, the pattern is easy to understand and the instructions are clear.

  33. Cynthia

Instructions are well done, easy make, comfortable to wear.

  34. Grace

Easy to wear and looks great

  35. rloharris

I made a dark coloured one for an everyday dress and a white poplin version with the pocket removed (I taped the front side pieces together) for a night-dress. No zips needed on mine, quick to make and easy.

  36. Marilyn

Easy to follow pattern but wasn’t flattering for me.

  37. Marilyn

    User friendly for summer.

  38. Anonymous

I would weare a dress like this everytime i want to feel pretty and fresh!

  39. Sonia

Sewing instructions were easy to follow and loved the different sized cups

  40. Elsa Pomar

I’ve made 2 Celeste deresses so far, but I won’t stop sewing more once the days are warmer! That’s the perfect dress to put on and run errands or you can easily dress it up with a nice necklace and bangs.
I love the shaping at the waist, no boxy shape for me. The slightly gathred front panel is very cute and is very full-tummy friendly without the preggo look. I love!

  41. Lorna

I love the pattern. I just wish it was in a larger size as I will have to grade out to a 24.

  42. Sandra

This was a really nice dress to sew. So pleased with the result. I made a wearable toile in linen viscose. Although Im only 5ft tall I found it easy to adjust. Loved the pockets. The front facing was a little challenging. Ended up using cotton lawn to cut down bulk.A really flattering style.

  43. Annetta

Love it. Looking forward to making another, perhaps with long or 3/4 length in a more winters fabric.

  44. Nirosha

    Perfect dress. Thank you dear.

  45. Sylvia

I was inspired to sew again by this pattern & I’ve been delighted by the result! The dress is shapely yet relaxed. The pattern instructions were clear, the pieces fitted together well. I think the trickiest bit was the front facing which I decided to handstitch. I didn’t need to add a zip which was a great bonus! I did lengthen the sleeves which have turned out well. I’ll make a few adjustments to the fit next time – I could probably come down a cup size. I may adapt this pattern for a tunic top next time.

  46. narelle

    stylish

  47. Ruby

I usually have a lot of fitting issues with indie patterns and the Celeste dress is no exception. I made my usual 1) high back, 2) sway back, 3) forward shoulder and 4) gaping front neckline adjustments. This time there was no need to do the full bust adjustment thanks to the different cup sizes. I cut a size 10 B Cup for the front and size 12 for the back to accommodate my broad back. There were more minor tweaks to the waist to fit my tummy. I eliminated the gathers in the front and omitted the pockets. All these adjustments required making a muslin first. As a result, the Celeste dress became my most comfortable and well fitting dress! This pattern will be my sloper for future dresses and tunics.

The most impressive features are the well-drafted sleeve and set-in instructions. The sewing instructions are unlike any other I have seen because the two gathering stitching rows are sewn inside the seam allowance. There is minimal ease, which resulted in a very smooth and professional looking sleeve with absolutely no puckers. I have never seen such a beautifully drafted sleeve in any pattern for woven fabrics.

I used bias binding cut from the dress fabric to finish the neckline because the facing did not work on this dress. The fabric is a medium weight loosely woven 100% cotton that resembled a light canvas so the interfaced facing was a bit too heavy and stiff. There was gaping in the front neckline even after the pattern adjustment, but the bias binding pulled in the excess ever so slightly that it is not noticeable when the dress is worn. The fabric stretches slightly due to the way it was woven so a zipper was not needed.

I highly recommend this pattern. It is very well drafted and all notches and seams match. I plan to make tunics and more dresses later. The pattern can be hacked in so many ways. The possibilities are endless. Thank you for producing a great pattern!

  48. Joyce

    I liked everything about it

  49. Miranda

A fantastic pattern. The style of dress is very flattering especially the princess seams at the back. I sewed a 12DD and did not need the zip. I used quilting cotton and, although it is a little stiff, I think it works. I can see me making many more of these. Very easy to follow instructions and great support on the facebook group.

  50. Janet

Beautifully drafted, every marking lined up even with grading sizes. I went exactly by my measurements and got a great fit, which is a rarity. My only adjustment will be to narrow the shoulders slightly on my next make (normal for me).

  51. Rowena

I made one and am about to make another one. I appeciated being able to print the pattern pages with the lines for my size only.

  52. Jen

I had some problems with the bodice facing here; it’s the eternal challenge we sewists have of sewing “blind.” Trying to get the facing edge caught while stitching in the ditch on the other side tended to distort the bodice because of the curved princess seams. Slip-stitching it didn’t totally solve the problem; in the end I just serged the raw edge of the facing and then laid it flat and topstitched from the right side. Other than that, this is a great pattern. I made it twice, once from a chambray and the second from a rayon challis. I did stabilize the seams on the challis.

  53. Kristie Price

Superb dress pattern! The Celeste is very flattering and designed for an easy fit.

  54. Dianne

I’m so glad I made a musin first. I found I could go down a full size with the C Cup option. Your directions are so easy to follow. It sewed up beautifully.

  55. Darlene

    Love this pattern!

  56. Marilyn

Loved the finished dress so much I have cut out a second one. Did the muslin for top, used A, then increased to B. Fit perfectly, didn’t have to put in the zipper. Will send you a picture of finished dress later today. Thankyou for a wonderful pattern

  57. virginia u.

    Thanks, very nice dress

  58. LINDA

I was happy with the pattern. I did have to go down a size compared to my measurements

  59. Joan

    This is a great pattern!

  60. Donna

Love design & cup sizing; easy to construct with clear instructions

  61. Virginia

I just finished this dress and it fits perfectly. I’m going to make another one for me and one for my daughter. Itch to stitch is my favorite e-pattern company for the following reasons:
    1. They have the best instructions of any other company I have used by far. There are little pictures with each step along with the written instruction step.
    2. The patterns are easy to print and to arrange in order when you print at home.
    3. The pattern tiles are easy to tape together.
    4. they have layers, allowing you to print just the size you need, but you can also print different top and bottom size and they show you how to merge them.
    5. You get all sizes when you order a pattern. You can print them all if you want. Some companies only give you one size up and one down from your size.
    6. Many of the patterns have variations so you get options to make it your own.,
I will keep trying other companies but I keep going back to itch to stitch.

My only wish is for them to make a few basic wardrobe pieces in petite size. Definitely a hole in the market for this.
    Love this company

  62. Nancy

Perfect summer dress. Loose and breezy but the princess seams give a very nice shape. I omitted the zip. Easy to assemble, with great instructions. Next version will be sleeveless, in linen.

  63. Anonymous

    well drafted pattern

  64. Brigetta

I just love this dress and see many more in my wardrobe. There are quite a few steps, but Kennis instructions make it so easy. My next one I will skip the pockets and make it a bit longer as it hits me a bit above the knee.

  65. Carol

These are the best “Indie” sewing patterns available!

  66. Kirsty

Easy to follow instructions. Lovely shape to this dress. Delighted and will make many more

  67. Terry

    Beautiful dress. Very good instructions.

  68. Anonymous

    Wonderful dress

  69. Rosa

Very comfy dress and easy to sew with the very clear instructions, as usual.
    Merci !

  70. Laurel

I love the lines of this dress. It is loose-fitting but has the look of something more fitted.

  71. Ágnes

This is a great pattern. I sewed 14 DD, next time I will sew 12 and grade up to 14 at the bust only, as it fits my bust but one size larger at other parts of my body. It is flattering on me as to my family members and colleagues.

How to choose your size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
