Interfacing Use lightweight woven or weft-insertion interfacing.

Other Materials

  • Five (5) 1/2" (1.25 cm) buttons for the shirt or eight (8) 1/2" (1.25 cm) buttons for the dress

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk. Due to the width of the pattern pieces, it is not recommended to use 45" (115 cm) wide fabric for sizes 14 to 20.

  1. Pamela

This is a wonderful well written pattern, I am impressed with everything about this pattern! Definitely a TNT pattern,, one to be used over and over again creating a multitude of fun tweaks!!!

  2. Valerie

Loved it. Easy to make and looked great!

  3. Veronica

The fit is perfect; the pattern is beautifully drafted and the instructions are great. My only complaint is the finicky little collar. I’m considering trying this pattern again with a bias binding neckline – maybe. My shirt turned out lovely but sewing the collar again gives me pause.

  4. Brenda

I loved making up this pattern and it resulted in an easy to wear, comfortable blouse which I made in a cotton lawn. I had to make minimal alterations, just to lower and shorten the dart slightly. I have another one planned very shortly.

  5. Jana

Great pattern with clear instructions. I made the dress version and I have more plans with this pattern.

  6. Shuk Yu

    Nice patterns

  7. Susan M. Vik

I love that this pattern has multiple sleeve options so I can make multiple variations to expand my wardrobe. I made a size 14 D cup version with short sleeves first and did not have to adjust anything. The instructions are detailed and very clear. The style is flattering and timeless. It’s another winner. Itch to Stitch patterns are becoming my go to for tried and true patterns that fit.

  8. Anneke

Easy to sew, clear instructions and I love the different cup sizes

  9. Fionnuala

I was looking for a blouse/shirt with a small collar detail and this fitted the bill exactly. Instructions were clear and easy to follow.

  10. Lisa

I love the pattern – this blouse is lovely!

  11. Anonymous

I love the shirt I’ve made from this pattern! Can’t wait to make more.
I was a little confused about how to sew the collar, but then found the blog post which helped.

  12. Jean

I loved the attention to detail and the instructions were well pictured and written.

  13. Kathlyn Blake

All three patterns I have bought have been successful garments

  14. Anonymous

It is a cute top and with a you tube video to show me how to construct the collar it was fun to make. The only thing I’ll do next time is take some fullness out of the back.

  15. Gail

This is the first pattern that I have had to make minimal adjustments to. Fabulous fit and clear instructions, Itch to Stitch are now my go to patterns

  16. ellenharper

As always, a terrific pattern. I love Itch-to-stitch patterns because there are never any surprises. With my figure configuration I always have to make adjustments to patterns, no matter which company I buy them from. But Itch-to-stitch patterns are so excellently drafted and true to size, and provides so many options that I find making adjustments a breeze.
As with all her patterns, I’ll use this one over and over again, with some minor changes or hacks that make each new piece like like something completely different.

  17. Zoe

This is the 1st itch to stitch pattern I have bought. The fit is great and the instructions were easy to follow. I will be buying from this site again as I have been very impressed with the quality of this pattern.

  18. Anonymous

I had to move the bust dart up a little, otherwise it fit without any alterations. I also changed the rounded hem to a straight hem with a side slit and added back waist darts for a closer fit, but that’s just my personal preference. The shirt came out beautifully! I will definitely sew this again.

  19. Ellen

Really excellent. This will be one of my go-to shirt patterns for the future. See my comments under other patterns. I LOVE Itch-to-stitch patterns. Just for the record, the bust options for those of us who are not your standard bust size and the layering are two of the attractive features about these patterns.

  20. Marie

Super happy with this pattern. My first experience of Itch to Stitch. I love the cup size options, so much easier than doing pattern bust adjustments. I made the long-sleeved shirt with buttoned cuffs and it sewed up beautifully, instructions very clear. I have already bought fabric for further versions of this shirt, I expect to use this pattern a lot πŸ™‚

  21. Jan

Really pleased with this pattern. Very versatile and can be adapted for different seasons, simple and stylish. Looking forward to making it up shortly.

Thank you so much for including a DD cup size, Ideally I would need DDD, but it fits, and I didn’t need any adjustment at all, (except for some excess fabric in the back, but I get this from RTW clothes also, and it’s not that much, and still looks great, I’m sure there is an adjustment for that, but I can live with how it is right now). I finally sewed something that looks more fitted, some tops made for woven fabrics look like soap boxes or tents on me or they just don’t fit me. Before I knew what a FBA was, my woven garments were always too big everywhere else, shoulders, waist hip, (I just have a full bust, I’m not overweight anywhere else), and when I found out about FBAs, I was happy there was a solution, but realized I didn’t want to have to do them :), I tried a few times, but they also made the waist larger, I didn’t want that, so I’ve been sewing knits more often, as I don’t have to bother with any adjustments, but I was longing for a nice shirt for work or weekends, so I’m so happy about this shirt, my muslin is a wearable one (I will have to resew the darts, there is a bubble) and I can’t wait to make this pattern in the nice fabric I had bought a long time ago!

  23. Heather

Very well fitting! I have 6″ difference between high and full bust, but this pattern fits perfectly.

  24. Tereza

Excellent instructions, easy to sew, nice fit

  25. Ytmar

    Great shirt

  26. Erika

Great patterns as always, I absolutely love all the bust sizes, it makes life so much easier to get a great fitting garment. Because of my shape getting a great fitting shirt is always impossible this is the first classic shirt I’ve made and it was great!

  27. Terri Chevalier

    Love this shirt pattern!!!

  28. Laura

The Bonn has so many good reviews that I had to add it to my collection. I love Itch-to-Stitch patterns. They are so well drafted!!!

  29. Machellie

Absolutely love this pattern. The instructions made it easy to stitch. With the variations and how easy it is to make I will be creating more shirts.

  30. Rona

The PDF pattern makes up exactly as the photo. Although it took a little bit of time to assemble the printed paper components, it was straightforward. The garment fits really well, not least due to using cup sizes. Probably the best fitting shirt I’ve ever had.

  31. Jane

    Directions were great

  32. Anonymous

loove the easy to follow directions, thank you for producing quality patterns

  33. Jacqueline

This was my first experience with purchasing a pattern from some other than the major companies. It was WONDERFUL! After I learned how to get it printed in large format (which also was great), I will always look to itch to stitch first when looking to buy a pattern. The instructions were clear and succinct. Prices were very reasonable.

  34. Kathryn

My new favourite shirt pattern! I made a couple of adjustments- shortened as I’m 5’2”, narrow shoulder adjustment, narrowed the sleeve and armscye and slanted the bust dart. Now I’m going to make lots.

  35. Sylvia

This is a fantastic pattern. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I like it so much that I just purchased fabric to make a second one.

  36. jana

This shirt turned out so well! I love that it comes in cup sizes. This is the best fitting button shirt I have had in a long time! I made a second one and I am planning to make the dress.

  37. Jenny

    Great pattern! Instructions very good!

  38. Jean

This was my first time downloading a PDF pattern. It was easier than I thought and the instructions are very understandable.

  39. Anonymous

Love the pattern! As a beginner found it to be very clear. The tutorials on the collar were also very helpful.

  40. Julie

    Great pattern, clear detailed instructions.

  41. melodie.kunegel

I’m amazed by the fit and details of this pattern: simple and perfect. I just added small back darts for a little more waist shape.

  42. Carol

Apart from the collar (I ended up scrapping my first one and recut another) which I found was extremely fiddley, the pattern went together exceptionally well, far better than many other Indie pattern makers! Unfortunately I don’t have a suitable buttons in my collection so until lockdown ends and I feel safe to go out to buy some, my shirt is unwearable! However, the fit is spot on and a delight to finally not need to do an FBA. As I am so happy with the shirt, I am about to cut a Bonn Dress to sew over the next few days and once again don’t have suitable buttons!

  43. Belinda Renken

    Fits perfect!

  44. Helena

simple but classic, will be used more than once

  45. Toni

Very well drafted, fitted without any adjustments. Looking forward to making many more.

  46. Sandra

I love this shirt. I used a different method for attaching the collar. I attached the upper collar first, then I added the under collar. This ensures, without fail, that the ends of the shirt opening are caught securely.

  47. Virginia

The extended cup size is great. Yeah!

  48. Marissa

These instructions / patterns are SO clear and easy to follow! I have never attempted making clothing before, and the short-sleeved shirt I made came out beautifully – I feel so much more confident in making clothing in the future thanks to this fantastically-drafted pattern. I can’t wait to start more projects! πŸ™‚

  49. Julie

I cut the 0 size with DD bust for my #2 muslin, and adjusted the length, much shorter. Wow, it fits so great, this is an impossible size to find in a store, even in petites. I’m halfway through the first shirt and very much looking forward to wearing it!

  50. Joan

All your patterns have been great.

  51. Leigh

    Lovely pattern

  52. Lana

Love this pattern. Such a classic. Love the multiple bust sizes on your patterns. No FBA on most of them them. Yesssss. Got my eye on purchasing at least 3 more patterns to add to the three I have already in my stash. Been watching one of your testers on UTube. She’s from Brazil and gives fabulous tips and ideas. Shame about the low Aussie dollar at the moment but will keep buying anyway. Still very good value in my opinion compared to commercial patterns.

  53. Anonymous

This pattern is really well drafted and the instructions are very clear. I am so pleased to have discovered Itch to Stitch patterns and will definitely be buying more.

  54. Raquel

Happy with this pattern! I made a dress with this collar and was pleased with the results. Nice clear instructions.

  55. Rosa

Easy to follow the instructions and with all the cup sizes included, I sewed up the short sleeved shirt in a jiffy! the result is very good! I will soon be making the dress.

  56. Christina

Great fit and love the pattern based on bust size.

  57. Kimberly

Love this pattern! I love that it is sized by the high bust measurement and then sized by cup size. The instructions are clear and well-written. I will definitely look forward to sewing another Itch-to-stitch pattern!!

  58. Anonymous

very slightly smaller than my size range so had to grade up but liked the collar detail. I’d prefer a more fitted version as this style is free of back darts

  59. jackie.rosenberger

I LOVE this pattern! I’d almost given up on finding a woven shirt pattern to fit me without extensive modifications. Bless you for including A-cup sizing! It is *not* the same as a B regardless of what the Big 4 pattern companies seem to think. The instructions were easy to follow and the pattern was very well drafted. The only change I made was to add 1.5″ to the length (a standard adjustment for me as I am tall). I’ve never had a pattern fit me so well before!

  60. Karyn

I loved the Bonn shirt. It fits so nicely and I will be making it again. Thank you!

  61. kate

This is such a good pattern! Both the pattern itself and the instructions were so clear and easy to use. I have made one shirt and now I’;m keen to make several more!

  62. Dayna

Great shirt. Will enjoy wearing it.

How to choose your size

  1. Determine your cup sizeβ€”subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1β€³ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2β€³ (5 cm), use B cup; 3β€³ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4β€³ (10 cm), use D cup; 5β€³ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the β€œBody Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the β€œBody Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the β€œBody Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
