Pattern Giveaway – Hey June – Adrianna Appl
**As part of Itch to Stitch’s one-year birthday celebration, one featured designer will be giving away two patterns each day.**

Yesterday’s question was: what would you sew/create if you can’t fail. My very high-level synopsis is that many of you want to make:
- Evening wear, which includes wedding gowns and really fancy dresses
- Coats or jackets (leather jackets, moto style jackets)
- Pants and jeans
I hope you find the courage to try making them. Two questions I ask myself when I face fear: 1) what’s the worst that could happen? Usually it’s just some time and money spent, but I’d learn something and it gets easier next time; and 2) what’s the best that could happen? I’d have something I am super proud of, and I’d also learn something too. So I encourage you to go for it!  For those of you who want to sew evening wear, I cannot recommend enough Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire B. Shaeffer. Think about the memory you’d create for yourself and for your daughter; it will be worth it.
OK, I hope you don’t feel that I am trying to solve your problem (like men always want to do when you only want them to listen). Let’s move on with our featured designer of the day, shall we?
Today’s featured designer is Adrianna Appl of Hey June. Adrianna and I are fellow Pattern Workshop students. Adrianna creates both children’s and women’s patterns. One of the designs that really captivates me is her Evergreen Jacket. So many beautiful versions are shown in her shop. I also love her Biscayne Blouse – such a classy and streamlined look with the hidden placket and a double-welt pocket.

I am trying to sew all gift this year ( at least in part ) & they are all memorable as I get to see the people react when I give them their gift. I recently made a doll carrier / bed complete with mattress & bedding & the look on the little girl’s face was the best. She ran straight off to put her baby doll inside.
My husband bought me my first sewing machine for a birthday. Its stil one of the best presents I’ve received.

Definitely anything made for a new bub. It’s an amazing time welcoming a new little person into the world and a hadmade gift is a little bit more love add to the mix.
I cross stithed a wedding sampler for a work colleague earlier this year of a Pink VW camper van identical to the one she was having as her wedding car . She was delighted as it was completely personal to their wedding and made a unique gift xx
The most memorable gift I made was a reversible jacket for my best friend. We’ve been friends for over 20 years and worked for the same companies. I didn’t have time to sew. It was my hidden talent. I was laid off from work and DE idea to break out the machine for Christmas gifts. That was the best Christmas for everyone…including me. Not only did I love their faces when they opened gifts, they truly loved their gifts much more than anything I could have bought. I made 90% of giftsome for all occasions for 8 years now.
The best sewing gift was my sewing machine, a Kenmore 10 given to me by a dear friend before I even knew how to sew. It’s what I’ve learned on and served me very well!
I remember my aunt sewed up for me a mini wardrobe for my doll, including a pleated skirt with lace hem, tiny tiny, and I helped her cutting and basting (I was like 6-7years old) and this gift is still cherished. All the clothes were lovely and I even had linens for her bed!
Most memorable gift is from my mother. She inspired and taught me to sew by letting me watch her when I was young and use scraps to make clothes for my Sindy doll.
And she made my wedding dress
When I was 15 years old my mom gave me personal labels to sew into my self made clothes. I still have some… 🙂 (now 52)
My mum gave me her sewing machine before she died. I still use it – and its as solid and true as when she used it to make my summer dresses as a child
I got a cutting mat and rotary cutter from my MIL when I just started sewing. This was the most useful gift I ever received.
My favorite sewing memory is when I was a child. I would sit for hours right beside my mom while she was sewing never saying a word but learning everything she was doing and storing it away in my mind for a chance to sew myself! This was my favorite thing to do as a child.
I am a beginner, but my best project was a bag for my daughter to carry her music books in for her lessons.
The most memorable gift I created was a purse for my mom. It was one of the first things I’d seen from a pattern. She loved it so much and then several family members wanted me to make purses for them as well.
The most memorable gift I sewed was a memory quilt for a friend. She was in the air force and was sent to Iraq for 6 months and already knew when she returned she would be restationed in Alaska. Her sons were very close friends with my son. While she was in Iraq, we visited places in our town and took photos of her boys at these locations. I had the photos printed on fabric and made a quilt for them to use and remember Texas. After her tour in Alaska she was able to return to Texas and still has the quilt and keeps it on her sofa for everyone to see.
For our 1 year anniversary, my husband bought me material. It wasn’t much, only a few yards, but it was what I wanted and he helped me pick it out and showed an interest in something I love. That was the best sewing gift I’ve ever received!
The most memorable gift was my first sewing machine. My husband bought it for me for Christmas not long after we got married. It was what I asked for, but he did the research and picked it out. My friends thought it was crazy. “He bought you that for Christmas?!” But thus began the journey
After a pretty serious accident and a major surgery my husband bought me a new sewing machine so I could continue doing what I love. Especially after my mom’s hand me down had died. His belief and support that I could continue doing it kept me going.
A book bag tote tool me 8 hours. It wasy 1st sewing project. Now it takes me 30 minutes. My how I have grown
I just got my most memorable sewing gifts today! it is my birthday and I am participating in the #chosensistersbirthdayswap2015 on Instagram. I just received 5 boxes crammed full of lovely handmade gifts from the ladies in the swap. I opened them with my best friend via Skype. I am overwhelmed and will be for a very long time.
the most memorable sewing gifts that i’ve created have been outfits sewn for my children’s birthdays. I’ve made a cheetah suit and zebra suit for my son’s safari party, which they enjoyed wearing so much. i also made an octonauts dashie-inspired dress for my daughter and a peso penguin-inspired suit for my son – he kept his suit on even though it was super hot! it’s fun to sew for them!! it’s a gift to me to see so much joy when they play in their outfits.
My most memorable gift sewing wise is my invisible zipper foot! It’s a life saver!
I make shirts for my dad out of crazy novelty prints. They all have special elongated chest pockets large enough to hold his check book and sunglasses, with flaps that velcro shut so nothing falls out when he bends over. (The special pockets were his idea). He loves getting comments on his unique shirts.
The most popular gift I have given/made is the Mouse House Creations Julia Cardigan. It’s easy to whip up, and easy to alter – I even let a few recipients pick their fabric from my stash and made it up for Christmas gifts – it was really well-received.
My most memorable sewing gift was my Pfaff sewing machine, which was our wedding present from my parents. They were also given a sewing machine, a Singer 301, for their wedding present by my grandparents (I have it now). I treasure this machine, although I have others, because of the sentiment attached to it.

I love to sew, since I was 9 years old. Started out without patterns, creating my own by hand. Then at 14 my step-dad bought my first sewing machine. Today, I am very pick about what sewing machine I use and I love pdf patterns along with my own creativity.
I was recently gifted a Singer 401 – the same model my mother had while I was growing up. She made all my clothes with it and I learned to sew on it. It’s so wonderful to have this machine in my life now, when sewing has become my number 1 hobby.
This year I received 3 amazing hand-quilted quilts that my great grandmother made with friends in the 1930’s. Swoon! My mom had been keeping them in her closet. Now I’m keeping them in mine. 😉 I’ve pulled them out a few times to take pictures of my sweet kiddos on them.
Something special I got is from my mom’s friend Caroline. She took my wedding dress and made it into a Baptismal gown and bonnet. I got to see my first grand daughter wear it for her Baptism. It meant so much to me.

I made my mom a large paper pieced quilt two Christmases ago. It’s my favorite quilt made yet and I themed it after their love of camping so there were animals, a camp fire, a fish, canoe, a tent and the best block – a little trailer. I made a coat for my mum as a Christmas present! It was the first coat I ever sewed and I putted tons of love and effort into making it! She loved it! I’m still very proud of this make!
My favorite gifts to sew are for my myriad nieces. I love it when about a month before their birthday they start describing what they want me to make them. It makes me feel good that even though they are getting older, they still want me to make them something rather than buy.
The most memorable sewing gift I’ve ever received was the one I received for Christmas last year. My mom bought an industrial Bernina machine and gave me her old Bernina 830. It’s s wonderful, dependable machine that she used to make all my clothes (and many of my bothers’) when I was a child. It’s very sentimental to me, as well as being a great machine.
I made net time blankets for my nephews and they love and still use them to this day. They took a long time to make, but it was worth every second spent on them.
My most memorable sewing gifts were ones I received. My mom got me a magnetic pin cushion decades ago for my birthday. I love it so much and use it to this day (I don’t like the ones you have to poke the pins into even though there are tons of them that are so cute)! Any one year, my husband surprised me with embroidery software for Christmas. That was wonderful!
When I first taught myself to sew a few years ago, I made my mom a purse. Looking back there are a lot of things that could have been done better, but my mom loved it and used it so much it started to fall apart. Then she asked me to make her another. That was the best feeling.
My mom hacking apart a prom dress I bought on sale the year earlier, then helping me create something I loved from it.
I made my Dad the Urbandon cap for his 80th birthday nearly 2 years ago. We had a huge party at a restaurant and had a really fabulous time. A little while later he was officially diagnosed with dementia and now he’s in a home mostly for his safety and my Mum’s sanity and peace. I had never made anything like that, he loved it as he wore caps all the time and because I had to finish, I just did it. I don’t have fear of starting anything and even if it doesn’t suit me, I normally finish everything…eventually.
A little bag for a friend, she wasn’t expecting it and it made her day.
For Christmas a few years back I sewed my husband a traditional wool golf costume, complete with hat. The best part was that it was a total surprise to him and his delight in it was so satisfying.
It would have to be the Saddle Bag I made for my niece who is extremely fussy, it turned out so well I wanted to keep it for myself 😉
Oh my, I forgot to mention the gift my husband gave last christmas. My very first brand new sewing machine! It was such a big surprise. After a needle through finger nail incident (I know, yikes) on the old sewing machine I borrowed, he thought It was time for better equipment :-).
Since I am learning to sew, I get to make my mom her favourite knit fabric a-line skirts! So far that has been my best sewing gift.
My friend Sophie (C’est la Vie blog) sent me a beautiful ornament for the christmas tree last year. Love it!
My uncle gave me my grandma’s sewing machine after she passed away, and I wouldn’t be who I am now without it. Sewing has become my passion since then. If you mean what creation someone has sewn, well my mom sewed a quilt (so many hours into that quilt!) and gave it to me as a wedding gift!
Drawstring bags with a cross-stitching embroidery with baby’s name – they hold baby’s first change in hospital. I love making them!
My husband just go me a new Serger !!!!!

The most memorable sewing gift I received is my serger….. undoubtedly the most useful, too! It makes sewing with knits a real pleasure 🙂

My most memorable gift is a fur teddy bear head attached to a jar lid. I made it for a sewing friend who uses it to store small sewing notions. I’ve made a number of them for sewing friends who tell me that it helps decorate the sewing room and is great for ready access to small things like seam rippers. Oh, the joy of sewing for others!
The gift I have made the most are baby gifts. I am constantly requested to make the onesie/bow tie oufit that is all over pinterest (alot of boys). Thankfully this is one of the easier things I can sew, and takes much less time than many other things. I love seeing the pictures of the babies in their outfits
I remember every handmade gift I’ve made for my husband’s nieces and nephews. The surprise and excitement they show when they discover what’s inside the wrapping paper is so precious.
My mum bought me a tailors dummy for Christmas. It was far more than she wanted to spend but she saw I really wanted it.
I gave a weekend bag to my husband last year. It was hard to keep it a secret, I had to sew every night that I was alone for about 10 minutes (not longer because he is very interested in what I do, so he asks every night about the result), but I managed to keep it a secret. He was very pleased with it (it was my first sewing gift) and uses it quite often (to go to the swimming pool, when he has to sleep in at the fire station, when he went abroad, …)
For my birthday this year, my mother-in-law bought me a rotary cutter & mat. I kept insisting I didn’t need one, because I don’t quilt, but I spent a weekend at her house, sewing, and she let me borrow her rotary mat and cutter. I was so amazed at how easy and quick it made everything. Since my birthday was only a couple weeks away, she took me down to the quilting store that day and bought the biggest mat available, and the cutter of my choice. Having a cutter and mat has made so many projects quicker, simpler, and less likely to rip my hair out. I wouldn’t have bought the mat on my own, so I’m so glad she chose to do that for me.
In the past I have created christening gowns and wedding gowns, all are very special.
