New Pattern: Tallinn Top & Dress
I think garments with princess seams are very much underrated. A fitted garment with princess seams looks classy and flattering. I think there should be more designs with princess seams. That’s why I am introducing the latest addition, the Tallinn Top & Dress, to the Itch to Stitch catalog with such a feature!
For one week (through February 26, 2020), the Tallinn Top & Dress sewing pattern is 20% off. The volume discount still appliesβget 15% off your entire cart if your purchase is $20 or more, or 20% off your entire cart if your purchase is $30 or more!
Let me tell you something really special! This is the first Itch to Stitch knit pattern that includes both standard and full bust fronts! I know you will love it!
Besides different bust options, the Tallinn Top & Dress includes three different views. View A is a peplum top; view B is a regular top; and view B is a dress.
Tallinn Top & Dress Features:
- Options for regular bust and full bust
- Front and back princess seams for an ultra-flattering fit
- Fitted bodice from the shoulders through the waist
- Fitted long sleeves
- Scoop neck with neck binding
- Designed for knit fabric
- Three viewsβ
- View A: Peplum top
- View B: Regular top
- View C: Dress
I am very excited about the Tallinn. I think it will be a workhorse of your wardrobe whether you want to dress up or down.

I love this pattern-princess seams and peplum both. Can anyone tell me what the yardage would be for short sleeves? I would be making a size 8. Thanks.
It will depend on how short the sleeve and the option you are using. The best way is to prepare your pattern pieces first and lay them on the fabric (even if you donβt have the fabric yet, you can use another fabric with the same width, or just lay them on the table after identifying what the boundary of the fabric would be).
I really like the look of this dress but I don’t like the seam down the middle of the front. Can it be placed on the fold for the front so that you don’t have the seam?
Hi Wendy, yes, you can easily eliminate the CF seam. It’s just a straight seam. All you have to do is to remove the seam allowance and then cut it on center fold.
This design looks simply fabulous on all of the pattern testers. My only dilemma is which version to make first!
Maybe make View A first so you can get the fit first before making the longer version. π
Oh my goodness! This is the perfect style for my figure. This dress will cover a lot of body imperfections with the way it fits and flares. Your testers are truly appreciated because it gives me such a sense of different fabric choices and how it fits on different body types. Definition this but will do short sleeves so I can wear it during the spring and summer. Fabulous job!
Thank you Jacki! I think it will look great in short sleeves too. π
This pattern is gorgeous! Money is really tight right now but it’s at the top of my wishlist. (And I’m so sorry you got such an unpleasant first comment… I too am older and full busted, and based on the testers’ photos I know this will be very flattering. Princess seams are the best for fitting to my chest without the whole front getting distorted.)
I also think that the princess seams flatter a lot of figures. They create an hourglass effect. I especially like one of the testers using a black fabric for the side panels, which accentuates her beautiful curves. π
It is not an unpleasant comment. It is my honest comment. Thank-you for posting it. Again it does not do anything for me, and I am surprised anyone would want to wear a top that is tight fitting and flairs out. Maybe it is because of where I worked for 25 years. You just did not give anyone any ideas. To everyone who reads this: Enjoy the pattern and all of the wonderful comments, the wanted and the unwanted that comes with wearing it.
I am sitting watching it snow and thinking I must run with the wrong crowd. I would never wear this pattern, especially view A. I am older full bust and would not wear something that flairs out. Better try the next time.
When I walk down the street, I see more styles that I wouldn’t wear than I would wear. But I understand that the world doesn’t cater to me only, and there are other people who like other styles. Even the crowd that I run with like things that I don’t like, and vice versa. The important thing is that I understand what flatters my body, and sometimes I am surprised when I try new styles. I hope you find your styles (or stick to what works on you).
Donna, I dress women of all sizes at Dress For Success. Actually, a peplum like in View A is great for skimming over the lower body, creating a pleasing line. If you selected a knit with nice drape, it wouldn’t stick out from your body. I think you would be pleasantly surprised by how it would look. Just my opinion. Best wishes.
Hi Donna , having a bad day π . This dress is lovely and bang on trend !
I am just voicing my thoughts, which are never liked if they not a positive and go with the majority. Just saying this pattern does not do anything for me. Enjoy the pattern and happy sewing.
