I knew I needed more jeans, and I was going to make more Liana Jeans. But I am itching for something new, and I bumped into Jag Jeans. Comfortable, figure-flattering pull-on jeans? What a concept! I went right to work to make them a reality.
Even if you fear making jeans, the Mountain View Pull-on Jeans are really your ticket. They are essentially pull-on pants with some topstitching—easy-peasy and perfect for your first pair of jeans. And no one will know they are pull-on pants when you wear them out. They look just like a pair of jeans.
If you are a veteran jeans maker, you still would love these. You can whip these puppies out in no time. The wide (high) waistband makes them very comfortable to wear, and is designed to have a little of tummy control effect. Who doesn’t like that? And the back doesn’t dip down plumber-style when you squat (check out some of the jeans-in-action shots of the testers below)—seriously you can live real lives and do real work in these jeans.
One feature I really love is the back seam. From a decorative standpoint, you can emphasize it by edge stitching/topstitching the seam, but if you don’t, you can omit the edge stitching/topstitch. From a functional standpoint, it provides opportunity to shape your back side and back leg. That’s tremendous if you ever struggled with pants-fitting before.
Also, even though the Mountain View Pull-on Jeans are designed with straight legs, included is a little instructions on how to make them skinny if you’d like. It’s super easy (sew a bigger seam allowance at some places, that’s it)! I asked some testers to do it so you can see the various widths of leg openings.

Little bit late to the party on these but I’m ready to make my first pair of trousers and these look perfect. Does anyone happen to know of shops in New Zealand (or Australia) that would sell the kind of fabric required? I can find some stretch denim but I was hoping for something a little smarter for work…maybe something like a stretch twill or cotton. No luck so far. Any ideas?
Try darn cheap fabrics or super cheap fabrics – plenty of stretch wovens!
I have been searching for this kind of pattern for ever! Thank you so much! I have incontinence issues thanks to MS and I need pull-on everything , as this allows for the quickest disrobing….. I have gazzilions of pull on baggy pants and I have been craving some dressier type of pants. Made one pair and have two kinds of suitable fabric in my stash to do more.
I found a tiny mistake in the sewing instruction that an absolute beginner might find hard to figure out: on page 13 first sentence should read “With right sides together, pin Back Yoke (5)”……………Not (7)

**SOURCE OF FABRIC FOR THE MOUNTAIN VIEW PULL-ON JEANS**
Many people asked about where to get denim fabric for the Mountain View Pull-on Jeans, and many of you also responded to the questions. So I consolidated the answers (and checked them out quickly to verify). Of course the selection changes all the time and won’t be available forever, but these seem to be available now.
Please note that the percent of spandex/Lycra does not necessarily reflect the exact amount of stretch the fabric has. The listing either has to tell you, or you ask the seller. 20-30% stretch means that you stretch a 4” folded piece of fabric (in the direction you want to test, width-wise in this case). If you can stretch it to 4 7/8”, that means it’s 20% stretch. If you can stretch it to 5 1/4”, that means it’s 30% stretch. It’s ((stretched length minus original length) divided by original length). Like how you calculate percentage increased. You can use any unit of measure (e.g., cm), the result is the same.
Also, I found that some people referred a fabric is that actually a knit fabric. Although it could work, the recommended fabric is a WOVEN fabric with stretch. Those are two different thing—knit fabric and woven with stretch.
If you know of any specific fabric that is available NOW, you could put the link in the comment. If it’s not actually appropriate (for example, if it’s actually a knit fabric), I will delete it to minimize confusion. Please don’t put general store information like “Joann”, or “eBay”. Only specific link to actual fabric available for purchase NOW.
P.S. The recommended fabric is the same for the Liana Jeans, so you could use these fabric as well.

Hi I am excited to make these jeans, however I need some help figuring out the correct size. My waist measures 32 and my hips measure 41, according to body measurements I need a size 8 for waist and a size 10 for hips but, the finished size for size 8 is 31 3/8 and the finished size for size 10 hips is 38 3/8. not sure what size to go with. Can someone help me please?
Hi, I would go with size 8 at the waist and size 10 at the hip. The instructions have infor on how to blend sizes. Also, the recommended fabric has 20-30% stretch, so there is negative ease throughout. That’s why the finished garment measurements are smaller.

please consider adding 2 more sizes up for your hourglass curvy girls. My hips are about 1 size larger than your upper most size but the shape of these woud be flattering in a full hourglass. Thanks

Several rear pocket placements reach below the crease of the buttocks. I was taught pockets should not go that low and they tend to flatten the butt if they do.
Is there a variety of pocket placements in the jeans shown? Is placement the sewer’s choice?
The pattern has a placement mark for the back pocket, but the instructions ask the users to place the pockets according to their own preference. I agree with you that the bottom point of the back pocket at the crease is the most flattering position. That’s my preference.

I am wondering if I could cheat a little and use any stretch denim fabric and add in an invisible zipper if I need one?
Probably not. I used some stretch denim that was slightly less than 20% and didn’t have very good recovery and it didn’t end well. Not wearable, but good practice.
