Hi lovely ladies! Who is interested in testing the latest design, Chai Shirt & Dress?
The Chai is inspired by vintage wasp waist dresses, but with modern sensibility. However, I can imagine that with a bright, contemporary fabric, you’d get more of a modern look than a retro look. Regardless, this fit-and-flare style is flattering for many figures.
The Chai Shirt & Dress Feature:
- A, B, C, D and DD Cups
- Dress and shirt length options
- Classic collar on collar stand
- Sleeveless and gathered short sleeve options
- Center front button closure
- Easy-to-wear A-line skirt
- In-seam pocket with dress option
- High waistband that elongates the legs
Body and Finished Garment Measurements
Material Requirements
Primary fabric Light-weight woven fabric with or without stretch, such as, shirting, cotton, linen, lightweight denim, rayon twill and crepe
Interfacing Lightweight fusible woven or weft insertion interfacing
Other Material
- Eight (8) 5/8” (3 cm) buttons for the shirt option
- Eleven (11) 5/8” (3 cm) buttons for the dress option
- 1 1/2 yard (1.4 m) of 1 1/2” (3.8 cm)-wide bias tape (purchased 1/2” (1.25 cm)-wide single-fold bias tape is an acceptable alternative)
Timeline
I plan to start testing Wednesday, July 26, and would like to receive your modeled photos with your garments by Wednesday, August 2. But as always, if there’s any important change to the pattern, we’ll extend testing as needed.
Tester Selection
Please only apply if you are interested in the style of the pattern. You will not have the opportunity to modify the style of the pattern (though you may choose to do so at your own time after the testing period). If you like your garment any other way, please forgo this testing call and wait for the next style that interests you. You are expected to choose a size based on your body measurements and sew the pattern as written for the purpose of testing. Blending sizes (as instructed in the pattern) and lengthening/shortening are OK.
The chosen testers will be invited to a private Facebook group where we can discuss the pattern, share pictures and discuss revisions. I will send the invite/link to the email that you provide. So please make sure you enter the correct email in the application form. Also please make sure that I am able to view the sample photos you submit; if I am not able to view your photos (i.e., viewing requires special permission that I do not have), then I will move onto the next application.

Hi Kennis, I remember you posted this fabric on Instagram asking if someone knew what it was. And I remembered someone said they saw it, I thought, on either Craftsy or Fabric.com, but I looked back at Instagram and couldn’t find the conversation……maybe I dreamt that!?!??. Anyway, I would love to copy you, do you remember where the person on Instagram said she saw it? Thanks.
Hi Tina! I found out (yes, someone on Instagram told me). It is a Liberty cotton lawn and I got it from Craftsy at a very good price. But sadly it’s not there anymore. Someone said it’s the “English Field” print. Not sure if it’s the actual name, but maybe you could search for it. Good luck!

Hi again! I noticed that you used a Liberty tana lawn for the shirt dress. Did you have to line it? I have a Liberty in my stash and now I know what to make with it!
Hi Esther, thank you for your interest. I didn’t line this fabric. This fabric is very tightly woven and is actually quite opaque.
Hi Kennis! I want to test this pattern, and I already filled up the application form online. I just want to say that I have no serger and no buttonholer attachment in my sewing machine, so I would have to do that by hand, if it’s ok with you. I love the way the sample looks, so whether you get me as a tester, I will buy the pattern anyway. Thanks!

Hi! I would love to test your new pattern but I am not on Facebook and I see that is a required field on the form. Could I still be considered if I am not on Facebook?
Hi Brenda, thank you for your interest. I run my testing group on Facebook, so it’s necessary for all the testers to use Facebook.
My husband has a facebook account so I could use his for that. I will fill out the form and see what you think.
