  1. Kathryn

The instructions are clear and comprehensive, I have so far only made a toile and the only adjustment I made was to grade from hip to waist (good instructions for this in the pattern notes). Looking forward to making up once my fabric arrives. I love the simple lines of these trousers, just what I was looking for.

  2. suzanne

    Great pattern

  3. cshudelston

This is such a great pattern. The welt pocket and zipper/fly tutorials are amazing! My only issue was that I made a size 00 for my niece and the pocket was MUCH too large. It was wide enough to interfere with the fly. I had to narrow the pocket by one and a half inches to make sure it cleared the fly/zipper. I made a muslin without the pockets and discovered the issue on my final product. Fortunately, it was an easy fix.

  4. mccarrafam

I recently made this pattern up in fabric from my stash. It was slightly lighter in weight than the main photo, but perfect for summer. The pattern fitted me perfectly!!! This is a first, not because I am a weird shape but simply because it is well designed. The details are beautiful, and although it took me a while to follow the pattern (I usually wing it…) it was 100% worth it. Using a longer zip and then cutting it is absolute genius as it gives a beautiful flat, even edge and reduces bulk. This also helped as I was using zip and buttons from my stash so the best colour zip was too long anyway. I can’t recommend this too highly and I will be making more pairs. Also, I have used several other Itch to Stitch patterns and find they are a good fit – small waist, full bust, slightly hollow back all accommodated – and turn out well every time.

  5. Ellen

After making up the first pair I am very pleased. They are just what I was looking for. Although I did not need them, the directions were very clear.
One comment, the 10″ zipper the pattern called for is really overkill in my mind. I used a much shorter zipper in my stash. I see the reason why this might be a good approach for a novice though

  6. Erica Wynter

    Great fit

  7. Jeff

These turned out perfectly. Great work wardrobe staple. Such a hit I cannot wait to try the North point trousers.

  8. Jean

Tailoring is my jam and the Upland Trousers, with their back welt pocket, fly front and zipper fly, tick all the boxes. I will make these casual in corduroy or linen and plan to make them fully lined in wool as part of a suit. Love this pattern!

  9. mary

The great thing about this pattern is that it does not have a waistband, so fit, comfort, and alterations are easier. I have not made it up yet, but experience with other Itch to Stitch patterns indicates the end result will be a success and a favorite to wear.

  10. Rhonda

Nice style pant and great instructions, as always!

  11. meyrav

Although sewing is new to me, the instructions were very clear and I had no difficulty sewing the pants. The pattern is great and with some adjustments and play between sizes they sit perfectly. I sewed the pants for my mom and she was very happy. thank you very much.

  12. Sue

A great pattern with good instructions!

  13. jsm1954

I am extremely impressed by this pattern. It’s very well designed and the sizing is accurate. I got a perfect fit without alterations which I usually need for my ageing rear! Many thanks.

  14. Jana Fowler

Will be making this one over and over. The fit is spot on! And the instructions were so easy to follow. Love the welt pockets.

  15. Sallie

The patterns are easy to follow and put together.

  16. Tamara

I cannot believe these fit perfectly straight out of the box! That never happens with trousers. I had high hopes because the kalispell dress fit perfectly and is extremely comfortable but also appropriate for work and outings, but I was still shocked not to have to make *any* adjustments. I fit into the size 18 measurements and made a straight size 18 to check fit, expecting to have to fiddle for days. But no! I am so happy with these I’ve made 2 pair already. Cannot recommend highly enough.

  17. Renee

Haven’t sewn it but have my muslin made.. The detailed description for the welt pocket is great.

  18. Anne

    love sewing all your patterns.

  19. Lynn

So love this pattern! They are the best fitting pair I have ever made. The directions are excellent. I will be making many more of these.

  20. Denise

    Great fit and excellent instructions!

  21. Jacquelyn

Great pattern, multiple printing options, that makes it so much easier!

  22. Karen

Made these trousers shortly after my purchase from red suiting that was in my stash with a flash of a red floral cotton in the pockets and for the facings. They came out try to size and most importantly will be worn. The shaping of the back is lovely. Those darts and welt pockets create a sculptured rear view. The instructions are clear enough that I didn’t even need the video tutorials. I’ll be making another pair soon.

  23. Susan

Even though I am an experienced sewist, I have been waiting for a simple pants pattern. The Upland Trousers fit the bill. The directions were very clear, but it helped to read them through, as the fly shield is put in later in the process. The front and back darts give it the subtle shaping my body needs. I was able to make a straight size 14, with no adjustments, which was a big advantage. I elected to make mine into shorts, however, I know, come fall, I will be making the trousers. This is my first Itch to Stitch pattern and I’m looking forward to trying more.

  24. Anonymous

  26. Virginia

    I love them all!! Thanks!

  27. Tiina

    Good summer pants

  28. Judith C.

Great new wider leg on high waist!

  29. Diane Rencher

    Lovely, timeless pattern.

  30. Brigetta

Awesome trousers, I have only made a muslin and just as well as I need to size up in the waist for more comfort. I can see many more pairs in my wardrobe.

How to choose your size

  1. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  2. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. It’s OK to use different sizes for the waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  4. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
