Choosing Your Size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are in between sizes, choose the smaller size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. See instructions for details.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the top. See instructions for details.

I highly recommend that you check your fit by making a test garment with inexpensive fabric that has similar weight and drape as your final garment fabric.

Material

Primary Fabric Use light to medium-weight woven fabric without stretch or with minimal stretch, such as shirting, broadcloth, linen, satin, peach skin and crepe. Note that the wrong side of the fabric could show as you move around in the dress; keep that in mind when choosing your fabric.

Lining Washable choices are cotton batiste and cotton lawn. For dry-clean garments, use Ambiance lining, polyester lining, China silk or charmeuse. Lining fabric is for pocket bags.

Interfacing Use lightweight woven or weft-insertion interfacing.

Other Material

  • One 22“ (56 cm) invisible zipper
  • One set of size 1 hook and eye
  • 80“ (203 cm) of straight fusible stay tape (or you may cut your own using lightweight woven fusible interfacing on the straight grain)
  • One sew-on snap fastener (Optional)

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.
