I wish you could add extended sizes on some of these popular older patterns. It would make it easier for me.

  3. Deborah

A great basic and it turned out really well. A great investment pattern. Love the bust dart!

  4. Suzanne

Really lovely top and great instructions

  5. Isabelle

    easy to sew

  6. Anonymous

I really like the pattern, though I have slender shoulders so my bra straps will show, and the sleeves may drop off my shoulders, maybe a scoop or square neck would be nice

  7. Joyce

    Great pattern. Wonderful fit.

  8. Celeste

Great for the older woman (like me) who just wants something easy and flattering.

  9. Anonymous

Very modern fit. Looks great with high rise jeans.

  12. Kathy

Great easy pattern for beginners. Can use many different materials to make

  13. Maria

What a pleasure to sew this pattern! Full bust adjustment included is so exciting- usually I’m left struggling to do this on my own. The instructions are great and I appreciate the reminders to stay stitch etc. I’m already looking at what Ill make next!

  19. Susan Kreft

    Another great classic!!!

  20. Diane Rencher

I love this pattern, it’s figure flattering for everyone- and it’s an easy sew! Win win! 😎

  21. Kimberly

I love Itch to Stitch patterns – and this one didn’t disappoint – I especially love that they come in cup sizes.

  22. Ann

So far I’ve made 2 Melrose tops and will surely make more! It’s a simple pattern but the bands at the sleeves and hem make it distinctive. I really like the short length and boxy fit with high-waisted jeans. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, even for a less-than-confident sewist like myself. For my first Melrose I used the C cup option, but for #2 I found that the B cup option worked just fine.

  23. Fiona

Really good pattern, easy to follow and dits nicely. Just a bit short, so depending on preferences, needs some k eg nothing. I added in 5 cm to the top but could have gone to 7. Will definitely use the pattern again though.

  24. Karen

Great pattern , well drafted and no FBA required! Saves me time and stress . Highly recommended!

  25. Marilyn

    Very versatile pattern.

  26. Anonymous

Cute, stylish, lots of options, and with cup sizes you know you will get a flattering fit. This would make a great beginner item with some new skills of topstitching, darts, and pockets.

  27. Elizabeth

ITS patterns always have clear instructions and easy to fit.

  28. Marion

Love these patterns, especially the bust adjustments. brilliant for people who are not 5’6″and a B cup!

  29. Sally

I like the pattern but when I printed it all the lines didn’t show, so I haven’t had a chance to sew it out, and I don’t know where to take the file to have it printed for me. I just wish you had printed patterns for sale too. So pretty much wasted $13.00.

  30. Kim

Well drafted pattern, very easy to follow instructions. I am pleased I bought this pattern and am looking forward to making many different versions in different fabric combinations.

  31. slattery100

I buy ITS patterns because I love the detailed instructions, the dependable pattern pieces that all align, and the fit. I bought this pattern recently and set to work putting together the pattern on the same day. I made the dress very quickly, it is an easy pattern. I would say if you have a few garments under your belt, this would be a good advanced beginner pattern – the instructions are detailed, the pattern is for a woven and it has only a few pattern pieces. I think you could learn a few things with this pattern too – making a a deep hem, fitting the waist and finishing the neck. I made this in a linen blend and I love it. It will transition from a summer garment to an early fall staple easily. I added about two inches to the length and I chose to use some decorative stitches in a contrasting colour to the hem. I will definitely make this pattern again and again.

  32. Paula

FITS PERFECT… WITH ALL YOUR INFO ON SIZES, MEASUREMENTS, & EASE, ETC. ALL HELPED WITH THE PROCESS!

  33. battra

Well-drafted pattern and quick to sew. My bust-waist measurements are size 2-4 but I size 2A fits well without having to grade.

  34. Hope

All the patterns from here are so clearly written. I think a beginner can sew easily from them. Love them! Thank you

  35. Diane

I love this pattern. The fit is perfect and instructions very clear.

  36. Janet

Pattern pieces easy to assemble and instructions very good. I made the peplum version and made it longer to give me more coverage. I cut a 18D and it fitted me perfectly which was fantastic as I often have to adapt patterns to fit me. Sewed up easily. The only change I made was that I cut a facing for the neck and interfaced it as I find bindings don’t sit very well on me. All considered I was very pleased with this pattern and will be making it again.

  37. Carol

Comfortable top with cute detail options.

  38. kathyhills22

I have made two dresses using the Melrose pattern. It’s a very versatile pattern with the opportunity to mix fabrics at the cuff, neckband or bodice/skirt (making it look like 2 pieces). I will definitely be making this pattern again. If you are looking for a classy, casual dress, this one fits the bill.

  39. Virginia

Love this simple dress. I left the pockets out. Great for every occasion. Dress up or dress down, it always looks good.

  40. Donna

So pleased your option of bust cup sizes meant I didn’t have to do a full bust adjustment. As a beginner sewest, I found the directions easy to follow. Made View B, but plan on making the full dress in the future.

  41. Lindy

    Nice pattern. Needed some adjustment.

  42. Elizabeth

Great pattern! Easy to follow instructions. Love that I can just print out my own size.

  43. Jude

Love the fit easy to make

  44. Pauline

Very nice patterns, always very stylish and the fit for me so far has not needed any alterations

  45. Annette

Perfect fit right out of the pattern (C-cup version). Love it – will be my go to pattern for tops and easy wearing dresses this summer!

  46. Maureen

    Great pattern

  47. Alison

    Brilliant Sewing Pattern, love it!

  48. Sandra

I love the Melrose pattern. So far, I’ve only made one top, but I will be making many more!

  49. Anonymous

Love love love anything I get from Itch To Stitch. Love everything about them

  50. Tammy

    Love what you are doing!

  51. Diane

The Melrose is my perfect summer top. Fits well, looks good

  52. Elsa

Such a quick sew for a very interesting top. A clever construction for the elastic waistband helps for a nice drape at the waist. I did the peplum top and really enjoyed the shape of it.

  53. Tracy

I love this pattern and have made both the top (view C) and the dress (view A). I am short in the body, curvy and maturing and for many years have found that I need to make fit adjustments to any pattern – but not this time, what bliss. Having learnt to sew in the 1970s using the big 4 patterns I had not tried indie patterns until now and I am a convert. It was the dress with its relaxed style that drew my attention. However, I made the top first (size 10) to check for any fit issues. Surprisingly I found that I love this too and have already worn it on several occasions. The instructions are clear and felt like I was having my hand held all the way through, from picking the right size to finishing. I will be definitely be buying more itch to stitch patterns in the future.

  54. Bernice

I love this design – loose and comfortable but with sleeves. Lovely pattern.

  55. Linda

This is a lovely pattern to make, I made the top. The instructions were easy to follow and pattern sizing was perfect. I will certainly make this again. Another winner.

  56. Anonymous

A classic styled top suitable for casual or dressy occasions. Love there are options.

  57. Brigetta

Love the “easiness” of this pattern. I have already made View C, and will definitely be making the dress for summer in September.

  58. Lone

Melrose is a really feminine dress and top and even though it is pretty simple, it has all the finesse and fine details of a typical Itch to Stitch pattern.

  59. victoria

Perfectly designed for my body type – the dart placement is excellent, and the shoulder seams are perfect for slightly forward shoulders.an easy sew with a relaxed but not sloppy fit.
Another excellent pattern from Itch to stitch!

  60. Helen

easy to wear will be making a few of these

  61. rloharris

Fun to make gorgeous dress which is comfortable too, and the top options are fab too. Add it to your collection!

How to choose your size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
