Primary Fabric Use knit fabric with about 25% to 50% horizontal and vertical stretch as well as good recovery. French terry, jersey and sweater knit are good choices. Keep in mind knit fabric with more stretch and drape results in a more relaxed and longer fit, and vice versa. Note that the wrong side of the fabric will be visible when worn, so choose your fabric accordingly.
Interfacing Use light-weight knit or tricot fusible interfacing.
Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.
1/2“ or 3/8“ (1 cm or 1.25 cm)-wide pre-shrunk twill tape or ribbon in the follow length based on your size:
Note that the twill tape or ribbon will be visible when the cardigan is worn, so choose your twill tape/ribbon accordingly.

This was the first I2S pattern I made. I was delighted with the fit, the instructions, and added details. I’ve made many more I2S patterns since this one as I’m a big fan now. I made from a heavyweight, low stretch french terry fabric (cuffs were a bit of a wrestle but turned out fine). I am still pondering adding an “after market” separating zipper or toggle / frog closures.

Unlike many print-out-on-the copier patterns, these required only minimal trimming of the individual sheets when assembling. A great timesaver. The pattern instructions were clear and well thought out. I have to confess that I took some chances and made this in boiled wool and made a collar instead of a hood because there was not quite enough fabric for a hood. The fit is excellent without fitting mods and I am delighted with the end product!

This turned out so well! I love all the little details: the side slits, the tape over the neck seam, the pockets. I know I’m going to be wearing this a lot!

Love the sleek long length. I used french terry and added interfacing at the button area and 2cm buttons to mine. I recommend it to anyone who likes leisurewear or would like to try a cardigan with a hood for a jacket alternative. Sew it in a stripe or bright solid for a nautical look!

Great pattern that clearly is designed for coziness. The pattern has a lot of details that make it stand out from other hooded cardigans – the twill tape on the hood neckline seam to prevent stretching out and covers what can be an unsightly seam, generous pockets!, side slits for ease of wearing, and shoulder darts for a flattering fit.

I love the Itch to Stitch patterns: they are so easy to follow and they look great. I made this cardigan in a green striped jersey fabric, and it looks really good
Kathleen –
Super cute and very clear instructions.
Karen –
True to size. No alterations necessary. Made in sweatshirt fabric and added snaps to make it one of the coziest cardigans I have.
Catherine –
A nice simple pattern

Lovely design. I did modify it to have a lined hood, and attached the band in a way which hid the raw edges. I also graded from a 2 at the shoulders to an 8 at the hip, added 2” to the length, and made the cuffs 2” shorter (and the arms commensurately longer). Wearing the resulting cardi right now! Feeling very smug and loving the pockets! Which I also messed with…

This is a perfect feel good long cardigan. It’s easy to turn it into a bath robe too! 😀 I use mine when I feel chilly in the evenings.
Diane –
Love it! Quick and easy. I’m wearing one now. lol Just wish I knew why the front band wants to fold to the outside (so the serged seam shows) instead of staying flat.
Dolores –
This is a perfect sweater/coat, and very easy to make.

Kennis, I love your patterns. I’m a mature woman, so seeing people my age and size wearing their creations helps. You have been hitting home runs lately, keep up the good work. I love that you are efficient and have thought everything through. Good fabric usage – nothing is wasted.
