Atenas Jacket Digital Sewing Pattern (PDF)

(17 customer reviews)

The Atenas Jacket is a classic denim jacket. The denim jacket we know and love was released by Levi Strauss in 1953, and since then, the denim jacket remains relatively unchanged. You can’t get more timeless than that. It means once you make the Atenas, you will wear the jacket for years, and it will not go out of style. The Atenas has the classic details of a denim jacket. While you are welcome to implement each and every one of the details—chest pockets with flaps, single-welt pockets, flat-felled seams and topstitching, you are also welcome to simplify and omit those details. Regardless of your preference, the pattern instructions will walk you through every step of the way!

Atenas Jacket Features:

  • Options for A, B, C, D and DD cups
  • Front double princess seams
  • Chest pockets with flaps or faux chest pocket
  • Front and back yokes
  • Optional single-welt pockets
  • Optional buttoned side tab at bottom band
  • Slightly dropped shoulders
  • Two-piece sleeve
  • Functional sleeve vent with buttoned cuff
  • Layers feature (print only the sizes you need)

Skill Level: Advanced (Intermediate if omitting welt pockets)

Sizes: 00 – 20 (See “Size Chart” tab below for detailed measurements)

Don’t want to print and tape paper together? The Atenas Jacket pattern now includes an additional large format file (size A0 paper) that you can send to your print shop to print!

Body Measurements

Finished Garment Measurements

Choosing Your Size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are in between sizes, choose the smaller size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the dress (see instructions for details).

I highly recommend that you check your fit by making a test garment with inexpensive fabric that has similar weight and drape as your final garment fabric.

Primary Fabric Use stable, medium-weight, woven fabric with a crisp drape. Denim, twill, broadcloth are great choices. Keep in mind that if you choose to use flat-felled seams, the fabric can get quite thick, so choose your fabric accordingly if your sewing machine cannot handle thick layers.

Lining Use a stable, non stretch woven fabric for the lining. Quilting cotton is a great choice. The lining is for the pockets.

Interfacing Use medium weight fusible woven or weft insertion interfacing.

Other Materials

  • Fourteen (14) (ten (10) if omitting side tabs) 0.67“ (17 mm) jean buttons and tool to install them (usually just a hammer)
  • Two (2) pieces of 2“ by 2“ (5 cm x 5 cm) medium weight fusible woven or weft insertion interfacing. No pattern pieces are included; however, the interfacing requirement below covers the amount needed.
  • Topstitching thread

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

I have been wanting to make a jeans style jacket for years and finally made this jacket. Once again the instructions were very clear and I was really pleased with the result. I used a cotton sateen with a little stretch. I will now be looking to make another one. Thank you for another stunning pattern.

Absolutely loved sewing this pattern. It is not for a beginner. If you are interested in a few challenges like sewing welt pockets, flatfeld seams, installing jean buttons and buttonholes then this is for you! I spend about 10-15 hours total and am very pleased with the jacket. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Just take your time and you’ll have a well constructed jacket.

I love Itch to Stitch patterns because 1) they are different from other indie patterns 2) cup sizes!!! and 3) they are usually outside my sewing comfort zone so I learn something new – always a good thing!
