Material

Primary Fabric Use medium-weight knit fabric with at least 20% stretch, such as sweater knit, double knit, fleece, interlock, sweatshirting, or French terry. Keep in mind that the fit will be looser when using fabrics with greater stretch or less recovery.

Contrast Fabric Use rib knit for the cuffs, arm bands, and bottom band. You may also choose to use the primary fabric for these pieces if it has good recovery.

Other Material

  • 15” (38 cm) of 1/2” (1.25 cm)-wide straight fusible stay tape (or you may cut your own using light-weight woven fusible interfacing on the straight grain)
  • Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

How to choose your size

  1. Determine if you should use the regular bust front pieces or the full-bust front pieces—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 3″ (7.5 cm) or less, use regular bust; if it is more than 3″ (7.5 cm), use full bust.

  2. Compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your bust (regular bust or full bust), choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.

  3. The waist has plenty of ease so it is not necessary to grade to the waist size if the waist in the "Finished Garment Measurements" table (in the pattern) can accommodate your waist—just grade from the bust to the hip and use the waist size that is the midpoint of the two.

  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.

  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.

  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
