Pattern Giveaway – Jamie Christina
**As part of Itch to Stitch’s one-year birthday celebration, one featured designer will be giving away two patterns each day.**
Thank you to those who participated yesterday’s giveaway and shared with us your dream sewing space. I am pretty happy with my sewing/drafting space, but I’d love some more natural light and lots of wall space to put every tool on display. I don’t know about you, I have so many little gadgets and material that I always forget I have them. But making everything visible, I will know exactly what I have.
One winner gets to take home two sewing patterns of her choice from Straight Stitch Design, and that person is…Elizabeth R. I will contact you, Elizabeth. Congrats!
Today’s featured designer is Jamie Christina. I found Jamie Christina when I stumbled upon the tutorial of DIY Hoodie Weave. I thought it was so interesting and out-of-the-box. It reminded me of a Valentine’s Day project I did when I was in school. Â Then I saw Jamie Christina’s Abbey Coat, I was totally in love (it’s only in print, not in PDF).
Jamie is generously giving away two PDF patterns to one lucky winner today. To get a chance to win the patterns, please comment and tell us about what you enjoy most about sewing and creating. I will pick a winner tomorrow.
I’m 5ft 7 and plus sized. Therefore I’m taller than “standard” patterns, shorter than “tall” patterns, and a lot of plus sized stuff doesn’t fit because I have to buy it big enough to fit my boobs, so it swamps the rest of me. Sewing for me is all about the making clothes that fit. Perfect fit is my Holy Grail.
I love making my children clothes. It’s my outlet for creativity. I feel at peace when I sew.
I’m not sure that my comment was published. I love the two patterns in the giveaway so I thought I’d try again. What I love most about sewing and creating is deciding the fabric and pattern for a garment that actually fits me!
I love matching a beautiful fabric with a pattern. I even get to pick a color that I like! The process of changing a pattern to fit my crazy body is challenging, but relaxing. I am so happy when I wear the finished garment and receive compliments from others. Even my failures are learning experiences that mean a lot (most of the time).
I really love the challenge – I get in the ‘zone’ when I’m sewing – and I love the sense of satisfaction when I finish and get to wear something I’ve made myself. I love all my ‘me made’ clothes so far, and wear them all the time, and real great when someone compliments what I’m wearing and I get to say ‘thanks, I made it!’!
I love learning new things and having a unique garment at the end is a bonus!
What I love most about sewing and creating is that I’m making my own bespoke clothing from fabric that I am very choosey about. I especially love that what I do is sustainable and doesn’t unwittingly contribute to any unfair labour practices that so many brands are guilty of. It’s actually one of the reasons I started sewing.
Getting to choose the materials start to finish.
I love that feeling of achievement once your garment is created. And the excitement you get just thinking of all the possible things you can create after you achieved that!
I love making clothes that are girly without being just pink and purple like in the shops, i like the fact that my kids love my handmade clithes best (especially my girl loves the twirly dresses, and my boy loves the pants and shirts…), and i love the fact that i can make myself new clothes with a pattern that i love, with just a few modifications, so it looks different every time.
I really enjoy sewing because I can do whatever I want or need. Because of (or, rather, thanks to ) a big stash, I can decide to sew clothes for my DD on the spur of the moment.
I love having clothes that are unique to me and I feel proud to say I made them myself. I am fairly new to sewing and still get a buzz when someone compliments what I am wearing without knowing I made it myself x

I love being able to escape from being a busy working mum and having something to show for my me-time that’s just for me. I also enjoy making pressies for my family and friends and love the reaction on their faces when they open them! ?
I love the feeling of looking at something at knowing I made it with my own two hands. I also love wearing the things I make and knowing that I made them. Its such a sense of accomplishment. I love it.
I love to look at my pretty fabric
I love having the freedom to create things that are exactly the way I want them to be, and fit perfectly! Thanks for the giveaway!
I love loosing myself in a project. I also love the challenge of problem solving when things don’t go quite right.
Ooo, I LOVE finding new indie pattern designers. I like the look of that hoodie coat! I sew because I love it. Such a sense of satisfaction creating something beautiful to wear. And, well, sewing is cheaper than therapy. When things get hard, I hit the sewing machine. xx
I love being able to create garments that look and fit the way that I want them to. It feels great to be able to make things for others too.
I like making clothes that fit my body and its uniqueness. I am also glad that I can opt out of fast fashion and its deleterious effects on others and our earth.
I love the creation process! I can’t sit still and it makes relaxes me to be working on on some sewing.
I love that sewing gives me an opportunity to creating something tangible, and there is a definite end point. Totally different to mum/work life. The unique clothing/accessories are a bonus!
Sewing provides a creative outlet for me and a sense of accomplishment. It realizes stress and makes me happy 🙂
I love to create because it gives me so much joy and those I create things for love them. It also creates lots of opportunity to use my big resource center. (-:
What I enjoy most is that it is very relaxing and quiet.
I love the whole creation process and then the result is something that fits me far better than RTW.
Sewing makes me feel centered and gives me a sense of accomplishment.
Sewing, for me, is a stress reliever. I stop thinking about my everyday stresses and pour myself into whatever project I’m creating.
I love to sew because I get to mix and match what I want and create something unique. I also sew a lot for charity and that in itself is a rewarding experience. Sewing is relaxing and at the end of it I have something wonderful to show.
I love the feeling of accomplishment when something is made and worn. I still get this after 30 years of sewing and I love when I sit at my parent’s dinner table with my other sisters (4 – none of who sew) and say that of the four pieces of clothing my son and I are wearing, I made three. Now if only I could feel the same about the garden! Not so accomplished there:)
I like sewing because I can create exactly what I want. No more going to the store saying “Well, I like this top except for …”
Oh my goodness!!! The abbey coat is adorable!
My favorite is the feeling of using my spare time for something productive and not ever having to go clothes shopping! I can’t stand racks and racks of the same thing. Haha
It’s fun. I have a very analytical job, so the creativity is a refreshing break.
Looks like you have some wonderful patterns that I’d love to try!
I love the expression on my girls face when I make them something new!
i like sewing because I learn new things with each project I make!
Honestly? Idyllwild tees. I am addicted.
I enjoy having an outfit that not everyone has and it actually fits!
Sewing feeds my soul. It’s my creative outlet. I love making tangible things from something that inspired me.
I love to sew because you have clothes that fit you well, of higher quality and you can adapt them to suit your personality. It also helps me relax and quiet my mind when life gets crazy around me.
For me it’s really the act of sewing ,the pieces coming together to become the creation. Sewing brings me a sense of peace and contentment in my high strung life.
I love to get things done. The end of a project is great. I also really love having things around the house made by me. It feels good to create. Happy Birthday!
I love the planning of a project and making something myself that impresses others, it gives me such a thrill of confidence! I also love that clothing is both beautiful and functional and can be modern or retro depending on my needs.
I love the fact that I can get clothes that fit. I always have to grade between sizes when I sew and buying clothes I struggle to get anything that really fits properly.
I love the fact that my clothes are original. I love the planning, cutting and sewing and knowing that they are made as well as, if not better than most RTW.
One of the best things about sewing my own clothes is that I have as much time as I want to think about it, no rush to try things on at the store and decide if it will fit right or be the right style. I can take my time to choose clothes that I will wear and that fit right.
Oooh, I lurve Jamie Christina patterns! I’m a bit of a fabric lush, so I love creating beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces in fabrics I adore.
I love that at the end you have this one of kind garment that no one else has.
I love being able to make something unique. And I enjoy the process of choosing fabric and matching it to a pattern. The creative process I assume that is
I love creating and sewing because it makes me happy and when I get “into the zone”, hours pass by like mere seconds:-)
I love handsewing. It helps me to calm down and relax. When I wear the garments I made I feel more like myself than with RTW.
I’m in love with the creating itself, from a piece of fabric you can make anything….
I love the fabric!
I really like it that at first you have a piece of fabric and it is just that. Then you use a pattern and start sewing et voila, it’s an unique piece of clothing! I have done a lot of cake baking and decorating over a couple of years and it was the same thing. You start with plain ingredients, then after a lot of time and devotion you end up with an amazing cake. With a few supplies you can make unique things, completely at your own wish. It is amazing!
I love fabric. I love being surrounded by beautiful fabrics and turning them into nice things.
I really enjoy that I am not limited by other’s creativity.
I love being able to make things fit better than rtw clothes. I’m happier with my wardrobe now than I’ve ever been.
Sewing is when I get peace of mind. It’s where I can get away from all the stress of my job and everyday life. It’s a time that is dedicated to only me and my creative need. Because it is a need. An unstoppable urge to make something with my own two hands. Just for me. And just for the joy of it.
i like being able to have clothes fitted to my own personal body! I have extremely short legs and a long torso, so if I were to buy a dress in a store, the torso would be 1-2″ too short and the length is usually too long. I am also an apple shape, so before I was sewing, I was forced to wear dresses with elastic waists, if you add the elastic waist and the 1-2″ difference with the bodice length, I always looked pregnant. I also love making unique clothes that not everyone and their mom is going to have.
