Material

Primary fabric Medium weight four-way or two-way stretch knit with great recovery and good drape, such as jersey, interlock, sweater knit and rib knit, is suitable. Note that without good drape the top may gape at the cut outs. Ideal stretch is at least 40% (able to stretch fabric from 4" to 5 5⁄8").

Contrast fabric Light to medium weight woven fabric with or without stretch, such as shirting, twill, sateen, seersucker, crepe de chine and charmeuse, is suitable. Avoid using feather weight fabric as the fabric may creep up when you move. Also avoid heavy woven fabric.

Essential Material/Tool

  • Ball-point or stretch machine needles for primary (knit) fabric; when sewing the contrast (woven) or combined fabrics, you can use a universal needle
  • 40" (102 cm) of 1⁄4"(0.6 cm)-wide clear elastic, fusible bias tape or bi-stretch interfacing to stabilize cut outs

Optional Tools

  • 1/8" size rolled hemmer foot for your sewing machine
  • Walking foot for your sewing machine
  • Serger machine
  • Cover stitch machine to finish your hems
  • Twin needles to finish your hems
  • Wooley nylon threads to finish your hems

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fiber shrinks in the wash, be sure to get enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

    Bonjour Kenny.

I’ve been spoiled with your patterns with cup sizes. So far I made Recoleta, Santorini, Nazare, Kosice and La Paz, and they fit perfectly. I’m working on Crystal Cove; and I bought the patterns for Celeste, Brasov, Cerro Alto, Kalispell, and Antrim (knit)! They all have cup sizes. I also bought Tustin (knit) that comes with FBA option.

I know that you don’t put cup sizes on most knit patterns so I didn’t think much about missing a FBA. Following instructions, I chose size 8 for the bust instead of 4D that I use when there are cup sizes available. It resulted with big gaping around the peekaboo cut outs! I made ruffles on the cut outs to try to gather the gap, I also had to undo the raglan seams to removed about up to 3/4 inch on each side of the bust. Next time, I will try using a smaller size and hacking with the Tustin piece for FBA.

I like the Paulina pattern for its use of smaller piece of fabric, and the peekaboo cut outs that allow using a more breathable fabric as contrast for ventilation when the main fabric may be synthetic.

This Paulina Top is a bit tricky in the layout if you don’t pay attention, but not difficult. All the Itch to Stitch patterns I’ve worked with so far are pretty true to size and easy instructions to follow leaving the end result lovely. That is true for this pattern.

A unique design with a lot of style options. Great way to use some smaller cuts of fabric. The knit overlay can be made with a light sweater knit making this a piece to transition from season to season. Plus Kennis shows how to hack this into a cute raglan top – she used a sweatshirt knit.

    Great pattern, very versatile

The Paulina Top is one of my all time favourites! I love that I can use up bits of my favourite wovens and mix them up with soft knits to make a comfortable yet fashion forward wardrobe staple! Beautifully drafted with great finishing tips.

I love this pattern that I had the privilege to test for Kennis. Not only is it very fashionable, but it is sooo comfortable. I have made 2 of these tops and always get so many compliments when I wear them – no one believes I made them. The instructions are very thorough and extremely easy to follow. One comment, there is plenty of ease in the hip area so be careful not to go up in hip size before testing your hip measurement with the actual pattern piece. Try this pattern – you won’t be sorry!
