Primary Fabric Use lightweight knit fabric such as jersey and interlock. Keep in mind that a fabric with more drape will be larger/longer and will contour over the body. Ladies with larger busts will find a fabric with more drape fits their figures better. A stable knit will make a more structured garment that is smaller/shorter. If your cup size is C or smaller, you can also use a lightweight woven fabric such as shirting, batiste, lawn, chambray, challis, crepe, broadcloth and linen. View A shows the wrong side of fabric as an accent, so choose accordingly.
Contrast Fabric Use lightweight woven fabric such as shirting, batiste, lawn, chambray, challis, crepe, broadcloth and linen. Do not use a sheer fabric.
Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

How to choose your size

I love this top. It was a bit harder to make than I expected but I think that was because of the fabric I used which was an embroidered double gauze. This made making the ruffle and neck tie a little tricky as it got a bit bulky in places. However once I tried it on, I was completely smitten- it is one of the prettiest tops I own! Those ruffles are so cute and it is just a really unique top. I am immediately going to make another one but this time in an Indian block print voile which should behave much better. I also love that Kennis’ patterns come in an A cup which very few other patterns do.

I have made two Vienna Tank tops. One with a mix of knit and woven and one all woven. Love them both! Great style and the fit is perfect. It has a wider shoulder so you do not need to worry about straps showing. It easily wears under a cardigan to span the seasons.
It uses smaller pieces of fabric so you can repurpose or use leftovers.
For the front the backside/wrong side of the fabric does show as the directions are written. Do not cause this to prevent you from sewing this up. Just sew the front detail so it is on the inside. You will still get the center stitching and topstitching but not the on-top look. The rest of the tank details are still there!
A summer must have for the day where a knit tank is just not dressy or as polished as needed.

Construction of this one is so fun. Love how all the pieces come together.

Lovely pattern for summertime panache.

I love that you can use knit or woven for this top and love the frill detail. It’s not that far down in the pile of patterns I am planning on sewing this summer.

I was really interested in a summer pattern that mixes my leftovers from other projects – requiring low yardage. I have finished my toile and it’s a great fit!

I really enjoyed this pattern. I finished my muslin and realize that one of fabrics wasn’t the best for the top. Exactly what I needed to know. Will be making it again. Instructions were great.

This pattern is so quick and easy to make and takes very little fabric. I can use scraps and leftovers from other projects so they don’t go to waste. I made 2 so far, but plan on making several more. My first one combined a scrap of woven with a soft rayon knit… both leftovers from other projects. The second one is a lightweight woven, perfect for hot humid summer weather. I was surprised at the level of detail in the instructions. It’s very thorough and clearly written. Get it… you’ll be glad you did.

The Vienna Tank is great and classy! Very clear instructions and diagrams, beautifully constructed for a nice finish inside. This tank could be made for anything from casual to formal wear in a wide variety of fabrics.

This is a great pattern. It is really well put together, very professional and well thought out. The drafting is excellent and the instructions are very clear and concise, which makes sewing it very straightforward and enjoyable. It is also a rather unique pattern– very few patterns mix woven and knit fabrics. I’m really happy with the tank I made, I made a version with a silk yoke and a patterned body and I just wore it to a special event and felt great in it.
Just so you know, I was a pattern tester for this pattern. So perhaps that makes me a bit biased, but it also means that I have given the pattern a very thorough going over and feel all the more confident recommending it to you.

This tank is awesome! I love it that I can use woven or woven/knit. I didn’t want to mess with ruffles, but after seeing others, I had to make one too. I think it’s my favorite of the two I have made. I have the fabric washed to make a third after I catch up on other things! The directions are clear and detailed like all Itch-to-Stitch patterns making it easy enough for just about any level of seamstress.
