Material
Primary Fabric Use a medium-weight knit fabric with some structure such as interlock, double knit and sweater knit, ensuring it has elastane or spandex for good recovery, and offers 30% horizontal and vertical stretch.
Interfacing Use very lightweight knit or tricot fusible interfacing.
Other Materials
- 15” (38 cm) of 1/2” (1.25 cm)-wide straight fusible stay tape (or you may cut your own using light-weight woven fusible interfacing on the straight grain)
- A piece of very lightweight woven fabric, such as charmeuse, satin, or viscose challis, cut on the bias, measuring 1 3/4” (4.5 cm) wide by 22” (56 cm) long
- For the cropped option: use four 1/2” (12 mm) buttons; for the high-hip option: use five 1/2” (12 mm) buttons.
Fabric Requirements
Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

How to choose your size

Determine if you should use the regular bust front pieces or the full-bust front pieces—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 3″ (7.5 cm) or less, use regular bust; if it is more than 3" (7.5 cm), use full bust.

Compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your bust (regular bust or full bust), choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.

Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.

It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
- If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
