Material
Primary Fabric Use a medium-weight knit fabric with some structure such as interlock, double knit and sweater knit, ensuring it has elastane or spandex for good recovery, and offers 30% horizontal and vertical stretch.
Interfacing Use very lightweight knit or tricot fusible interfacing.
Other Materials
- 15” (38 cm) of 1/2” (1.25 cm)-wide straight fusible stay tape (or you may cut your own using light-weight woven fusible interfacing on the straight grain)
- A piece of very lightweight woven fabric, such as charmeuse, satin, or viscose challis, cut on the bias, measuring 1 3/4” (4.5 cm) wide by 22” (56 cm) long
- For the cropped option: use four 1/2” (12 mm) buttons; for the high-hip option: use five 1/2” (12 mm) buttons.
Fabric Requirements
Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

Mary Jane –
A very nice and well-fitting pattern which I will make again. I received compliments on my first version of which I omitted the pockets; I felt my fabric was a bit bulky for them. The inside bias tape along the collar is visible when the top bottom is left open.
fmbourd –
Excellent pattern. I made the Teifi in a stable Knit with beautiful results. I will definitely make this again.
onefashionmama –
The Teifi Cardigan is a great pattern! I have another fabric picked out already for a second one.
I wore it to a doctor appointment and the nurse sneaked a peak inside to see what company made it because she really liked how it looked and how I had styled it. She wanted to go buy one for herself. When she found only my own label in it, she had to confess and asked if I had made it. I think she was disappointed that she couldn’t just “buy it off the rack.”
Cynthia –
Love it! Great instructions and fit.
deb.carpenter –
An absolutely beautiful jacket and a very popular style at the moment! I made the jacket up in a camouflage French Terry and will be worn lots this winter. Thank you Kennis!
