Material

Primary Fabric Use a lightweight woven fabric such as shirting, rayon challis, batiste, chambray, lightweight linen and lightweight broadcloth. Keep in mind that the wrong side of the fabric will be visible on the ruffles and flutter sleeves, so choose your fabric accordingly. If you opt for the armhole ruffles, note that the fabric can become quite bulky—be sure to use very lightweight fabric.

Interfacing Use lightweight fusible woven or weft insertion interfacing.

Other Materials

  • 30” (76 cm) of 1/2” (1.25 cm)-wide straight fusible stay tape (or you may cut your own using lightweight woven fusible interfacing on the straight grain)
  • 3/8” (1 cm) wide elastic, three times the length of your waist
  • For Sleeveless Top – No Ruffle, Single Ruffle, or Double Ruffles: 60″ (155 cm) of 1 1/2”-wide (3.8 cm-wide) flat (non-folded) bias tape made from a very lightweight woven fabric such as batiste, voile, or lining fabric. Alternatively, make continuous bias tape using a 10” x 10” (25 cm x 25 cm) fabric square by following this tutorial: itch-to-stitch.com/biastape
  • Three small safety pins
  • Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

How to choose your size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust.

  3. The garment has substantial ease at the waist and hip. Check the Finished Garment Measurements for the waist and hip using your chosen bust size. If your actual waist and hip measurements allow for at least 2" (5 cm) of ease, you can continue using the same size for the waist and hip. If not, select a size that provides at least 2" (5 cm) of ease in those areas.

  4. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  5. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
