  1. Cathy

The cup sizes make all the difference in the fit of this jacket! I made one in cotton French terry and a second one with a wool boucle French terry. It’s sews up so beautifully and the instructions are great. I especially like the sleeve facing, the back vent and the welt pockets. I had never made welt pockets with a flap before and they turned out great!

I love making jackets and I found the La Paz pattern superb. The style and fit are excellent and the instructions very easy to follow. I made it in a stretch pique and I know It will be successful in a range of fabrics.

I am an intermediate sewist and had already bought a “big box” jacket pattern to make up for my niece to wear to work. The pattern would have required a FBA to fit her full bust and some redesigning to remove the lining that she didn’t want because it made the jacket too hot to wear inside. I’ve never done a FBA before and was dreading it. When I saw the La Paz Jacket Pattern was unlined AND came in DD cup, I had to buy it. This pattern took all the guess work, altering, measuring, and frustration out of sewing a jacket to fit her large bust but small shoulders. The directions were easy to follow (lots of pictures) and detailed so I couldn’t make a mistake. Only problem is that now she wants me to make her a lot more La Paz jackets in different colors and fabrics so she can wear them all year around. And since the pattern is multi-sized, I want to make a few for myself, too. Thanks so much for helping us to get so much enjoyment from sewing!

I really like that your patterns have a DD size available. My first muslin is looking really good.

How to choose your size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
