Material

Primary Fabric Use lightweight to medium weight woven fabric. Twill, broadcloth, chambray, and linen are great choices. Do not use fabric narrower than 56” (142 cm); the front and back skirts are too wide to be cut on narrower fabric.

Lining Use lightweight, stable woven fabric such as cotton. The bodice is not lined, but the lining is used for the pockets.

Interfacing Use lightweight to medium weight fusible woven or weft insertion interfacing.

Other Materials

  • Nine 1/2” (1.25 cm) buttons or snaps
  • 47” (120 cm) of 1/2” (1.25 cm)-wide fusible stay tape (or cut your own on straight grain)

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

What a beautiful dress – I am so glad this pattern recently came through as a special, as I had been gifted silk fabric to make a dress for a special occasion, and when I saw it, it seemed just the thing. I made a muslin first to ‘learn’ the pattern and check the fit, and it all came together beautifully. I love that the dress has pockets. The cup sizes are great – with your patterns I never have to make a bust adjustment. And all is very precise and well thought out.

  2. LINDA

So far this is my favorite pattern. I follow Karina on Lifting pins and needles, and being a seamstress for a long time I found she has the same build as I do. It’s especially great to see the FBA which makes it more enjoyable then the struggles I had with a lot of the commercial patterns. I recently purchased the “Sew Beautiful” book. Kennis Wong is a talented and a true joy to follow, TY!!

I have been very happy with Itch to stitch patterns. The quality is good, directions are very clear, and they fit me well. I just made the Kalispell dress and it went together beautifully.
I did have the pattern printed out large format, and I did not know how to 1. Print out just the size I wanted, I know you can do that when printing at home. 2. Print out just the pages I need. I don’t need all cup sizes. Again, I could do that on my home printer, but couldn’t figure out how to do it in the large PDF format. Probably user issue, but maybe some directions how to do that woykd be nice.

    Hi Kennis,

Thank you for your suggestion – I printed this pattern off on a high quality printer, and the tiles were misaligned in three different places – not just one area, so reprinting is not going to be an option. I will just ensure that I true the pattern pieces that I have had to adjust.

    Kind regards,
    Tam

Hello there – absolutely beautiful pattern. The style and shaping are gorgeous. Love the fact that there is a built in FBA in the pattern. I am an experienced sewer, with some pattern making experience, of which I am relieved, as I have found that the pattern did not line up when taping it together. Yes I have checked the printed measurements on the appropriate page. I just wanted to offer you guys the feedback. I am looking forward to sewing this little baby up. Kind regards.

    • Kennis Wong

Thank you for the feedback! If the pages/tiles don’t line up, I suggest your re-print those pages, as well as the pages AROUND those pages. This is usually a feeding issue of the printer.

This has bee one of my favorite makes thus far! I used a rayon challis with the flared sleeve and I love it! The instructions where great and fit was spot on!

  17. Mary

I just love this pattern and I am working on it at the moment. I can`t wait to start my next one. The only change I had to make was to the finished length, as I am only 4 ft 11 tall. I am making it in a nice soft summer print.

    Love the FBA

  22. Rita

    As always…fantastic patterns!!

  23. Linda

I conquered my fear of wovens with this one! I did make a muslin of the bodice and only needed to add 1″ to the length of the bodice. I was pleasantly suprised as I have a high rounded back, forward thrusting shoulders and a sway back!

I was delighed with the fit and have another Kalispell cut out in a lovely cotton denim look chambray.

The instructions were excellent and all notches lined up perfectly. An excellently crafted pattern as I’ve come to expect from Itch to Stitch.

Love the fit and the different buste options make it easier to fit it to your body. Absolutely adore ITS!

  25. Bernice

I love the classic fit and flare style of this dress.

  26. Jolien

Love the type of dress and even though it’s a lot of work to sew up, it’s very doable with the instructions and I love the result.

How to choose your size

  1. Determine your cup size—subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.
  2. After determining the cup size, compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Using the corresponding row for your cup, choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  4. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  5. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  6. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
