Angelia Shorts are essential for your summer wardrobe. Sitting slightly below the waist, Angelia Shorts have a contoured waistband with a button closure and a fly front zipper. They also feature a flat front and a relaxed fit at the thighs. Three views are included in the pattern.

View A

View A is a streamlined version of the shorts with 4” (10 cm) inseam. This view is perfect for someone who is newer to shorts sewing, and wants to focus on learning how to do a fly front zipper, and/or contour waistband. You should use View A when you sew your test garment to check the fit.

View B

View B looks so polished that no one would guess that you sew these yourself! It has all the bells and whistles:

  • Front patch pockets
  • Angled pocket tab closures
  • Cuffs
  • Bottom side tabs
  • Front coin pocket and back patch pockets with button closures
  • Belt loops
  • 4 1/2” (11.5 cm) inseam

View C

View C is the longer view of the shorts. It has:

  • A length that falls right below the knees
  • Waist drawstring
  • Leg drawstrings
  • Front patch pockets with button closures
  • Back patch pockets with button closures

You could also swap some features to create a view of your own! For example, you can easily add back pocket to your View A or remove angled pocket tab closures from your View B.

  1. Sarah

It is a great pattern. Even with the mock pair I made, they still ran a bit big. I will try the smaller size next and use what I already made for working in my garden.

Great instructions, great pattern. Very good details provided to make the process easy. But I made view A with no modifications and according to my measurements and I found them to be much much too big. Like more than two inches all around I will try them again, and will size down one or two sizes!

  3. Barbara

Kinnis was quick to contact me and clearly explain what I had overlooked. I have now finished a View A muslin and am very pleased. Can’t wait to start View B.

So, I have changed my rating from three stars to five stars. I have sewn Itch-to-stitch patterns before and (now) find them easy to read and sew.

Is anyone else have issues with the View A waistband instructions? I have tried every combination I can imagine and still haven’t been successful. HELP!

I have made a lot tops, blouses and dresses, but am a rookie at shorts and trousers. I really want to give this pattern a better rating and will when I can figure out the waistband.

  5. Jill

The pattern was easy to construct, but some of the instructions were a little hard to follow for me. As I am new at sewing clothes, the shorts had some issues when I finished. I will attempt another pair later.

  6. Anne

These are the absolute BEST fitting shorts! I only had to make one very small adustment – I took in the side seams 1/4″ at the waist, the back darts and additional 1/8″ and the back seam 1/4″ in at the waist (waist smaller than the size I had to cut for my hips).
I love ALL of the patterns you make – they always fit me so well with hardly any pattern changes.
I do prefer a 1/2″ seam allowance (this pattern seems to be an older one and perhaps you were doing 3/8″ seam allowances then?). The 1/2″ seam allowance is just easier with the markings on my needle plate on my machine.
I am currently making my third pair, with two more in the works!

Very cute. Look forward to making many more of these!

  11. Fiona

I like the details on the pockets. Another nice pattern from Itch to Stitch

  12. Jennifer

    Beautiful details and good fit

Great shorts pattern. The style features make this short stand out from the ordinary basics. Again the detail to each step is wonderful. All levels of sewers can make a great pair of shorts that look anything but homemade!

I’m wearing them today again… I’ve made two shorts using this pattern, and will make more. The little details make this pattern unique but the fit and longer length make them my favorite pair of shorts. I did lower the front waistband a bit as I like it a little lower in the front. It falls just on my belly button without this adjustment. It’s loose, without bagginess, and has great, stylish, useful pockets. The instructions are very well written and easy to understand. This is my go to pattern for shorts now, but I’m getting ready to make the Belize… and that one looks like a quickie. ?

How to choose your size

  1. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  2. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that fits your hip best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. The instructions for blending sizes are included in the pattern.
  4. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
