Newport Top Digital Sewing Pattern (PDF)

$10.00

Snuggle-worthy yet effortlessly elegant, the Newport Top is one garment that you won’t regret making. The Newport’s details are understated, but you surely will not go unnoticed. Use a soft sweater knit for an instant sweater, or use a fluid jersey for a casual tee. Oh, you also get to choose between regular long sleeves and 3/4 flute sleeves. Of course you can always make two tops and try both styles of sleeves.

Newport Top Features:

  • Boxy silhouette with a relaxed fit
  • Wide boat neckline
  • “Envelope fold” shoulders
  • High-low hem
  • Two sleeve options: 3/4 flute  and regular long
  • Layers feature (print only the sizes you need)

Skill Level: Beginner+

Sizes: 00 – 20 (See “Size Chart” tab below for detailed measurements)

Don’t want to print and tape paper together? The Newport Top pattern now includes an additional large format file (size A0 paper) that you can send to your print shop to print!

Size Chart

Newport Top PDF Sewing Pattern Body Measurements

Choosing Your Size

  1. Compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  2. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your hip. If you are in between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust and hip (see “Blend Sizes” in the instructions).
  4. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the bodice (see “Lengthen/Shorten” in the instructions).

I highly recommend that you check your fit by making a test garment with inexpensive fabric that has similar weight and stretch as your final garment fabric.

Material

Primary Fabric Use light to medium-weight knit fabric with 20% to 50% stretch as well as great drape and recovery. Sweater knit and jersey are great choices.

Interfacing Use lightweight knit or tricot fusible interfacing.

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.
