Size Chart

Vienna Tank PDF Sewing Pattern Body and Finished Garment Measurements

Choosing Your Size

  1. Compare your bust circumference (fullest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your bust. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted, as long as your measurement is less than the finished garment measurement; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  2. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your waist. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted, as long as your measurement is less than the finished garment measurement; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. Compare your hip circumference (widest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your hips. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted, as long as your measurement is less than the finished garment measurement; otherwise, choose the bigger size. Note that the tank top does not cover the widest part of your hips. This measurement is used only to guide your selection of a size.
  4. It’s OK to use different sizes for the bust, waist and hip. All you have to do is print the sizes that you need, and blend the lines from one size to the next. See “Printing Instructions” and “Blend Sizes” in the instructions.
  5. If you are taller than 5’7” (170 cm) or shorter than 5’4” (163 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the bodice (see “Lengthen/Shorten” in the instructions).

I highly recommend that you check your fit by making a test garment with inexpensive fabrics that have similar weight as your final garment fabrics.

Material

Primary Fabric Use lightweight knit fabric such as jersey and interlock. Keep in mind that a fabric with more drape will be larger/longer and will contour over the body. Ladies with larger busts will find a fabric with more drape fits their figures better. A stable knit will make a more structured garment that is smaller/shorter. If your cup size is C or smaller, you can also use a lightweight woven fabric such as shirting, batiste, lawn, chambray, challis, crepe, broadcloth and linen. View A shows the wrong side of fabric as an accent, so choose accordingly.

Contrast Fabric Use lightweight woven fabric such as shirting, batiste, lawn, chambray, challis, crepe, broadcloth and linen. Do not use a sheer fabric.

Optional Material

  • 72” (183 cm) of 3/8” (1 cm)-wide bias fusible stay tape

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk.

This pattern is so quick and easy to make and takes very little fabric. I can use scraps and leftovers from other projects so they don’t go to waste. I made 2 so far, but plan on making several more. My first one combined a scrap of woven with a soft rayon knit… both leftovers from other projects. The second one is a lightweight woven, perfect for hot humid summer weather. I was surprised at the level of detail in the instructions. It’s very thorough and clearly written. Get it… you’ll be glad you did.

This is a great pattern. It is really well put together, very professional and well thought out. The drafting is excellent and the instructions are very clear and concise, which makes sewing it very straightforward and enjoyable. It is also a rather unique pattern– very few patterns mix woven and knit fabrics. I’m really happy with the tank I made, I made a version with a silk yoke and a patterned body and I just wore it to a special event and felt great in it.

Just so you know, I was a pattern tester for this pattern. So perhaps that makes me a bit biased, but it also means that I have given the pattern a very thorough going over and feel all the more confident recommending it to you.

This tank is awesome! I love it that I can use woven or woven/knit. I didn’t want to mess with ruffles, but after seeing others, I had to make one too. I think it’s my favorite of the two I have made. I have the fabric washed to make a third after I catch up on other things! The directions are clear and detailed like all Itch-to-Stitch patterns making it easy enough for just about any level of seamstress.
