Material

Primary Fabric Use lightweight denim, linen, poplin, twill, crepe and gabardine silk dupioni or other medium weight woven fabric with or without stretch. Use slightly lighter weight fabric for View D and View E.

Lining Use lightweight woven fabric such as twill, broadcloth or quilting cotton.

Interfacing Use lightweight woven or weft-insertion interfacing.

Other Materials

  • 1 1/4" (3 cm) wide elastic up to 23 1/4" (59 cm)
  • 16" (41 cm) of 3/8" (1 cm)-wide bias fusible stay tape (or cut your own using lightweight interfacing. Be sure to cut it on the bias.)

Fabric Requirements

Most natural fibers shrink in the wash; be sure to have enough fabric. The requirements below assume that the fabric is already pre-shrunk. Due to the width of the pattern pieces, it is not recommended to use 45" (115 cm) wide fabric for sizes 14 to 20.

  1. Carol

Fit is great – been looking for a woven shorts/skort pattern that works for me for a long time!

  2. knswed

I have had this pattern for years, but only this year actually sewed it up the shorts option. I used a stretch woven (10%) and it was perfect. The fit was spot on. I love the pockets and have taken to using that pocket for other pants patterns too now. Deep enough that my phone stays in place. I will definitely be sewing a few more.

  3. Sharon

I am currently sewing up these shorts right now. So very easy, fit well and a quick sew. I am using a knit without pockets, however I have 3 pieces of woven fabric for shorts with pockets.

  4. Jane

    Love the options!

  5. Susan

Like the pattern. Easy to sew. Just do not care for pockets. The pockets pop out like bunny ears. Do not know how to correct problem. Fit is good.

  6. Joan

I made the shorts – great fit & super comfy 🙂

  7. Jan

I was looking for a golf skirt pattern. This was perfect for me! I have been looking for fabric to match a favorite shirt.

  8. Carolyn

Wonderful pattern and instructions leading to a great fitting pair of shorts. My first garment in quite a few years and I’m very pleased with the results.

  9. Ute

Thanks!

  10. Angela

The pattern is lovely, but I found the sizing to be off. Using knit fabric and going by the size chart, 10 sizes smaller than the size chart indicates fits best.

    • Kennis Wong

Hi Angela, thank you for your feedback. The pattern is designed for woven fabric. Using a knit fabric for this relaxed, woven shorts does throw the sizing way off. I am glad to hear you made it work.

patron super ,1er essai ,un peu grand mais portable et refait aussitôt dans la bonne taille

  12. Tammy

Love! I little lose, but I like how it is so finished. Easy sew.

This pattern is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve made 3 pairs already! They sew up quickly and I love the deep pockets. Thorough directions as always from ITC. Thanks for another TNT pattern!

This Is a must-have! Wear them in my house everyday!

  15. sabbiemv

This is a great fitting pattern that looks good! I made view A of the shorts and they were SO easy to put together.
The instructions and illustrations are so clear it’s nigh on impossible to go wrong.
Also the shorts fit me perfectly right off the pattern without the need for adjustments. Happily, even if I do need any tweaks, such as blending sizes, in the future the instructions walk you through what you need to do.

  16. Sunni S.

This is another great Itch to Stitch pattern! The finishing result of very comfortable and I was able to complete this in less than a day from cutting out to completion, including with children about!

  17. Astrid

Very nice pattern (which I modified a bit to make a round hem, more like a normal skirt) and easy to follow step-by-step description, I am very happy with the result! I had a little trouble finding my size, though, as I am not familiar with the US sizes. One little damper: I prefer patterns not including seam allowance, but this would not stop me from shopping on this site again 😉

  18. Mary L. Rainey

Just like the shorts, not the short.

  19. Anonymous

I made the flat front shorts with a bottom weight Tencel twill. The fit was perfect on the first try— comfortable, flattering, and easy to make. My only adjustment was to widen the waistband to accommodate 1.5 inch elastic, because that’s what what I had on hand. I like the elastic width, so when I make them again, I will probably just stick with that.

  20. M.

I love, love, love these shorts. The pattern was well designed, all the pieces fit well together and the instructions were detailed and clear. Assembly was fast and easy. And the shorts fit beautifully, the most comfortable shorts I’ve ever worn, including ready made shorts.

  21. Worth every penny

  22. Tiffany

Took me a few times reading through the pattern to get it right but love how they turned out

  23. Erin

I LOVE this pattern. Great instructions, plus you appear to draft for my body type. Awesome! I’m so excited to try more patterns!

  24. docrosie

I’m an absolute beginner and self-taught sewist. I found the pattern to be well drafted, and the instructions are very clear with wonderful illustrations. My hip measurement placed me at size 10 but I wanted a more fitted garment, hence I made the size 8. Perfect fit, no mods made ( I wouldn’t know how to make fitting adjustments anyway) This is my first shorts, and pockets, and elastic waist and I’m giddily amazed with the results. Thank you Ms. Wong for this top notch pattern.

  25. Anonymous

Love the pattern. Ready to sew in real fabric.

  26. Juanita

I did a pair of shorts in a cotton first to check sizing and then made the skort in a knit. I think I will go down one size if making in a knit again. Pattern was easy to follow.

  27. kerry.bailey

I made view D for my teenage daughter and we are both thrilled with them! The instructions were very clear. I am part of a sewing class, but normally rely on my sewing teacher telling me what the next step is because the instructions with commercial patterns can be less than ideal. I made the skorts up on my own at home, and even managed to “fit” them to my daughter’s size. I had never come across a layer pattern before… what a great idea. It made the whole process so much easier. I will definitely be making more of these.

How to choose your size

  1. Compare your hip circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose the size that best fits your hip. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  2. Compare your waist circumference (narrowest part) to the “Body Measurements” table. Choose an elastic length based on the size that fits your waist best. If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size if you like your garment more fitted; otherwise, choose the bigger size.
  3. There is no need to blend sizes from the waist to the hips on the pattern pieces.
  4. If you are taller or shorter than 5’6” (168 cm), you should consider lengthening or shortening the garment. The instructions for lengthening or shortening are included in the pattern.
