Style Book Magazine

August 15th, 2009

I went to a Japanese bookstore today for the sole purple of looking at sewing magazines. I wanted to see if they have Mrs. Style Book that some of the sewing blogs rave about, but instead, I found a magazine called Style Book. I don’t think they are the same thing.

I don’t speak or read Japanese, so this magazine is more of an eye candy than anything. It comes with some pattern sheets, just like Burda Style. But it’s not clear to me whether I still need to modify the patterns after I trace them.

The styles are very simple. Here are couple patterns I like.

Not earth-shattering, but simple and elegant. I could probably find similar things from Burda or the big four.

One thing that interests me the most though, is some tutorial. It describes how to make flounces.

Isn’t it neat? Now the problem is, I don’t understand it!!! There is no pattern sheet corresponding to the flounces. And really, what the heck does this mean?

Chance is I won’t actually sew anything from it. I will just flip through the magazine and savor the pictures.
