Here’s my recent creation – Kwik Sew 3617
Misses’ pull-over close fitting tops. View A has scoop neckline with wide neckband and full length sleeves. View B has V-neckline. gathered neckband with elastic, and extended shoulders forming cap sleeves.
I made View B. I love this top. Specifically I love the gathered neck. It’s so comfortable that I would wear it everyday.
I made a size medium, but I cut a size XS in the V-neck, plus raise the neckline half an inch more. As you can see in the picture, unless you like to show off your cleavage, I recommend raising the neckline. But now looking at the picture, perhaps I didn’t have to raise that extra half an inch. Next one I will make a size S with a XS neckline.
The gathered neck is actually not the typical gather. It’s one piece of long rectangular fabric, fold in half length-wise, then stitch two lines to make a casing a bit away from the edge, then put a elastic through the casing. And then you stitch it to the neckline of the bodice. It is really not difficult. After you understand the mechanic, you might not even need the direction at all.
Since it has no sleeve, the rest is a breeze. Essentially I just finish the hems by serging, folding and top stitching using a narrow zigzag stitch. To stabilize it, I iron some double side fusing tap to glue the hem down before top stitching.
The fabric I use is a super soft and drapey Stretch Rayon Blend Jersey Knit from fabric.com. They call this color Fuschia Summer. I also bought some in gray, but somehow it is not as soft as this Fucshia Summer color, even though they are supposed to be the same.
It’s a casual and easy t-shirt with some flair. A winner!
